Handscomb is one of the better batsman in the country against spin, but that isn't especially relevant for the Ashes. If he keeps camping back in the crease he will be eaten alive against England
That's what I said:

He's a better prospect than Head, but tbh I still don't love him in England.
still do better than Head though.

wtf was that shot he just tried to play off the spinner there

Far be it from me to talk up concrete feet but he's been our best batsman this summer.

That Labaschagne has the best test score this summer is an indictment on the whole Australian setup.

Good knock Labuschagne tbf. Worked very hard and dig the side out of a bit of a hole. Probably the best he’s played

Probably more to do with him literally being the first batsman this summer to come out against a weak bowling attack that wasn't facing the new pink ball under lights tbh

Hmm I phrased myself poorly. The indictment is that 81 is the highest score, not that Labaschagne in particular scored it.

Let’s be honest here, the bloke who should be under the most pressure to keep his spot is Ussie. Done absolutely nothing when he was most needed as the senior pro. Darsh was rightly rissoled for not performing in a similar role. Khawaja should go unless he shows something in the next test and a half.

I just knew we were going to see Perera with the new ball. If you neglect fast bowling so much at home it spills over into your overseas captaincy.

He looked pretty dangerous against KPat tbf. The new ball can do funny things for a spinner, the same ball can grip and turn or slide straight through.

Run rates have really dropped in test cricket the past 12-18 months or so haven’t they? Not necessarily a bad thing if bowlers are back into it a bit more I suppose

It feels like inability to rotate the strike when boundaries aren't been scored is one of the main factors. Australia's general ineptness without Smith and Warner will be another cause.
