Maybe because they saw the deformity in his hand?
Uh, you've missed the plot too.

The deformity was only considered after having it scientifically analysed where they took cameras from different angles. No person prior to these tests would have a point to justify Murali's action - especially his youth level coaches. That's actually one of the main arguments FOR Murali, that no human eye could judge. And that's my point, if no human could judge this and, despite this evidence, everyone would see him as a chucker - how could his coaches, not knowing this fact, keep him bowling the same way?

The same reason why Alec Stewart doesn't think he chucks.

He can spin his wrist/hand like a helicopter.
Um, this has nothing to do with his wrists.

That action was made to chuck. It was luck that they screwed the rules - from before - so he could continue bowling. Back in 92-93 where we didn't apply biomechanics you want to tell me the Sri-Lankans, the rest of the world and Murali didn't know his action was outrageous? 'Bullshyte' is what I think of it. If he grew up in Australia bowling with that action he'd get a smack to the back of his head bowling like that in the juniors.
I guess you never heard of Aaron Bird?

are you saying that murali didn't know he couldn't straighten his arm before the tests? you must be joking.

At the end of the day he is allowed to bowl the way he does. It's under ICC law.

Lets get back on topic

I hope to god that Sinclair never comes near the NZ team again.

Perfect series to try someone new (or give someone like Marshall/Fulton another chance) Yet we go back to Mr foot work.

Surely Ryder or Taylor had to be a better choice for the future, With NZ in the next few years starting to play more test cricket.

Fully fit Papps has to have a chance to take over How (or Cummings if they want double youth)

Also good to see Vettori in the wickets, Martin bowled well, Bonds lack of pace is kinda depressing. I have a feeling Franklin is gonna step up soon. I mean really step up he shows alot of promise but then follows it up with some really really bad bowling. I think he needs to learn to be NZs Hoggard bowler.

I've heard of Brett Lee too, but he's a far cry from Murali. Also, how many tests matches has Aaron Bird played? 8-)

I'm saying that the intent of Sri Lanka should be questioned for ever letting him bowl like that for so long and for their test side. Especially considering we/they did not know what we do today about his action.

Yes, that's true, but it won't stop people questioning it - neither should they, nor should people discourage it.

Sorry, I shouldn't have replied. This just becomes trolling, I just wished to address some of the posts of certain members.

Considering he cannot straight his arm fully, how exactly would you like him to bowl?

Exactly, and yet everytime SL wins a match, some jealous whiner has to bring it up. As always.

Well done to Sri Lanka, and well done to both teams for the drawn series. I guess we were lucky that we were less pants than the Lankans in Christchurch.

I take heart from the Wellington result when I consider our top six thus:

Cumming - is rubbish, but his opening combo with How has been solid runs-wise.
How - see above. Also, it's not gonna take a world beater to displace either of these hacks in the side, so why worry?
Sinclair - has blown his chance for good. Even I've lost faith in him now. This is last last time we'll see MS Sinclair named in the NZ team.
Fleming - just a patch of indifferent form. He'll sort it out.
Astle - is past it. Time to drop him before he gets too embarrassing. Sad really, he's been a favourite player over the years.
Oram - god awful. Should be dropped immediately.

Bring back Styris, Give Taylor and Ryder a blat. Problem solved.

Why in a hell Oram was sent before Vettori when he cant play Murali's doosra and when he has lot of problems facing murali.

Vettori might have teamed up with McCullum when they lost the wicket of astle. Vettori has got a good defence that no other batsmen in NZ present camp possess. He along with McCullum would be a good pair to face Murali and Co.

I think Oram must be dropped. Ross Taylor should come in the side. What happened to Michael Mason? He would be helpful in this sort of wickets.

Happened is happened! Lets not discuss deep and make our NZ team more depressing before the all important ODI tournaments.

Always Experience will do good when your top order is not doing good. Bring back McMillan.

Scored the most runs from the top six. Definitely deserves another go.

Cumming chances

Cumming was good at pull shot but couldn't play full length swinger. Even though he is topscorer, you should take in to consideration that he got three times out to a no-ball in the first match! It might be record!

Let's not forget that Oram scored a century in South Africa not so long ago. He was pretty ordinary in this series but the injury didn't help his cause. Im sure Oram, McCullum and Vettori are getting sick of coming in at 90/5 all the time..the finger should be pointed at Cumming, How, Sinclair, Fleming and Astle.

I think How and Cumming deserve at least another series. Sinclair failed again, and yet again we're at the end of a series discussing what to do with him next. Fleming is out of form but he needs to get his act together and the same applies to Astle..but Astle has been out of form for awhile now and I think the selectors will be scared to drop him considering his disappointment last time he was dropped.

The relief for the selectors is that they won't have to pick another test side for awhile.

So gutted that there isn't a decider. NZ Cricket, I hate you.

Anyway, well done SL. First test they've won in NZ for about ten years isn't it?

True that. Oram's problem is that he is totally brain dead vs Murali. I can't believe that he continues to get out in the same way every time. If you are a left-handed batsman, and you know that Murali can get one to turn into you and you can't pick it from the hand, why the hell would you continually put your pad down the line of the stumps? Why not play every ball pitching straight as though it was the doosra? If it is, you hit it, and if it was just an offspinner, it's going to turn past the edge. No harm done.

I do like the look of How. He's a very good looking batsman once he gets in - he plays the pull shot well, can drive straight down the ground of good-length balls and scores at a good clip. He's got some technical problems though, mainly getting squared up too easily which leads to him getting out LBW the whole time.

Sinclair showed some fight, unlike some of our other batsmen. Got out in pretty soft ways once he was set though. There's so long until our next test series that its impossible to say whether he'll still be in the team.

Yeah I agree that Oram looked stupid against Murali, he obviously has a weakness against spin which is not particularly good considering he could get a huge stride in.
I just get the feeling with Oram sometimes that he doesn't play completely to his potential. I mean with his height and power he could bowl extremely quick and bowl with some nasty bounce and I think he could do alot better with the bat. He seems to be too shy at times to really get stuck in.

Aha, but I didn't say drop him, did I? Just don't be too upset with the loss.

Our best option at the moment is certainly How and Cumming (or maybe Papps), but given our lack of quality openers since seemingly forever, there's no point getting upset about those two. The focus has definitely got to be on numbers three through six, and I definitely don't think we're short of candidates - in addition to Styris, Ryder, and Taylor, there's also Hamish Marshall and Fulton.

NZ Top order

I expected a lot from NZ team and was wondering will this be end to our Top order collapse before this series. It got more worse when the team could not meet to the pace of Malinga. How bad that we couldn't find a player like Mark Richardson who can play for atleast two sessions. Right from the ICC champions trophy, the trend of Top order collapse is continuing. And it is the strong reason why we could not win against AUS despite great heroics from Vettori in the end.

Lot was expected of Fleming too when the team was asked to chase 502. Because he has the ability to bat for longer hours. But why did he go for a rash shot of Malinga's first ball in the new spell.

But, all these collapses will only do good for vettori to score some good fifties and hundreds to end up as a greatest all rounder of all times.
