I agree.. Sri Lanka were nothing short of a disgrace in the field.. I would safely say that the cricket team I play for are a better fielding unit than what Sri Lanka showed out there in the NZ first innings.

Must be emaressing for Sri Lankan fans to watch their team field in such a way..
I don't think their that bad u have to remember that their fielding aganist a quality batsmen and with bowlers bowling at a lot faster speeds. I doubt that ur park side is a better fielding unit then them, even though their fielding crap.

My rep team would be. Honestly some of the stuff I just saw in the final stages then in the highlights package was just awful..

That run out attempt at the end summed it up really

Franklin! What a legend, I really rate the guy, I thought he bowled extremely well against Aussie. I hope he can do the same to Sri Lanka.

And it seems his batting has finally come to the fore! Whoo hoo. :D

I think he does have genuine talent and it would be good if he could progress like Hamish Marshall.

Well when a side is playing well they field well and when a side is playing crap they field crap. You just have to look at how the Australians fielded aganist the Indian two summers ago. When a team plays bad the first thing that goes down is their fielding. Also does ur rep side have any bowlers that bowl at 140 plus and so they face batsmen of the standard of Hamish, you have to put it all in prespective. I doubt your rep side would look any better if fielding to Hamish's batting or Malinga's bowling.

Anyway good work by the Sri Lanakan openers hopefully they can keep doing tommorow.

We can take simple catches in the deep, field balls taht get hit straight to us in the inner fielding ring and hit the stumps from less than a metre away though

Highlights package... of course they're only going to show the bad stuff there, they can't really show every bit of good fielding. It was bad, but not terribly bad.

Under what pressure but, think about it

When you are linning up a catch you always feel under pressure no matter what the circumstances are because primarily you don't want to let down your bowler and your team mates.. I would back myself to field on the boundary and take catches like the one Sri Lanka dropped at the end even if my life depended on it.

And that run out.. I would put my whole family's life on hitting the stumps from that situation 99 out of 100 times

The Sri Lankan fielding is extremely poor, they are doing themselves no favours in this test.
The difference with Sri Lanka is that they've had those opportunities but have blown them...badly.
I agree. Mahela Jayawardene - this guy has a career record for number of dropped catches !! :D
Jayasuriya and Sangakkara at the start of NZ innings messed one uncharacteristically.
Chandana dropping Franklin was one of the worst.

But the Sri Lanka ground fielding has been good. They have saved a further 100-150 runs.

And the kiwis have failed to dominate the scoring. I mean you only have to look at the number of sessions they have batted to eke out this score of 500 to realise this. That's only 100 runs a session . Not a picture of dominance is it ? :) :)

And Hair also gave Astle a complimentary 100 :D , and denied some very close LBW's even against tailenders.
I would say Hair has contributed an extra hundred to the NZ score ! :D :D

I cannot speak for the players but when they are linning up a catch i very much doubt the think of the pressure they are under from their country.. the first thing that would enter their mind, if any negative thoughts entered their mind at all, would be thinking about the reaction they would get from their teammates if they grassed the catch.

Mate if u watched more then the highlights (or lowlights) then you'll see their ground fielding wasn't the problem it was their catching and throwing.

Yeah I am not neccesairily suggesting that their ground fielding was bad but to say they saved 100-150 runs in the field through their ground fielding is just ludicrus.

Just from what I saw at the end of the NZ innings where Franklin was able to run 2's to the Sri Lankan fielders in the deep because they have such poor arms makes me very reluctant to believe they saved 100-150 runs through their ground fielding

If u watched the whole day you might have a greater picture what the fielding was actually like. They did save a fair few runs through ground fielding but what they saved they lost with the dropped chances.

Well it on par with his pervious test, Harbarjan getting reported while Hair was umpiring was just a floke wasn't it
Except it wasn't Hair who reported him, so I guess it is just a coincidence.

I will reserve my judgement on Hair until after the series, because that's when whatever little surreptitious reports he writes from his little room will come to light !! :D :D

But I will not be surprised if he writes a little report about Malinga or if it comes to light after this series that Malinga has been reported by the Match referee, obviously with no mean contribution from Hair of course ! :D
