ATM for a WC final tomorrow I'd go Southee, Henry, Milne, Vettori. Boult doesn't have the number of performances under his belt (why didn't they send him to the UAE???) and Mills doesn't have the overs.

But of course we know that's not happening. I think they're going to roll with Southee, Boult and Milne. They rested Boult from the UAE because they've decided the Southee/Boult combo in tests will translate to ODIs. Milne pips Mitch because they won't want three left armers in the side.
N Mac or Mills for 12th man? Experience vs athleticism

This is going to be a ridiculous post to some - but to the hard core fan you will like it.

I was listening to the commentators talking about Vettori getting over his front leg better these days and potentially getting more purchase. So I studied his bowling in the last game. He is no longer bowling straight breaks instead he is getting about 1-3 inches of spin. It is a small "blink and you will miss it" amount, but it will be enough for him to be more difficult to face than he has been in some time.

He appears less wiley than he has in the past (although that is returning) and needs more game time to remember all of his tricks and nuances.

He completely outfoxed one of the greatest players of spin bowling the world has ever seen.

He's definitely getting a touch more purchase on his return. I noticed it in the domestic t20s a while ago actually.

I'm going Southee, Boult, Milne.

All three are capable of taking wickets as well as restricting the scoring. Milne may lose out to McCleneghan but it's touch and go.
Definitely between Mills & Boult on who'll share the new cherry with Southee come WC proper. Think I'd also prefer a fit Milne over jammy Mitch bowling first change.

Who knows if the McHesson's don't pull out the Boult first-change following Mills and Southee card, if Mills continues to show form. They're not beyond surprising us.

Maybe they are saving Boult for the death overs in the key games, he seems to have good control in the last two games in the middle/late stages, but he didn't bowl too much there.

Boult appears to have an excellent slower ball, with a number of variations. He could therefore be counted on to bowl well at the death.

If they want to use him as a death guy, they really need to start bowling him there now.

I have nothing against Boult as a white ball bowler, but FMD the NZ hierarchy are leaving his run late.

He has been when he's played though. Can't really blame him for being in a team that's bowled out the opposition before the death.

McCullum is likely to be rested for game 7. Hard to begrudge him that. And I wholeheartedly approve of what he's doing with his spare time (and money) this week at Karaka.

The problem for sides like SL and India is that in these conditions not only do good fast bowlers thrive, but bad ones get absolutely smashed everywhere. No reverse swing, poor conditions for spin bowling...I think the subcontinental sides aren't going to leave much of an impression in this WC.
