I still would have played Kaushal and Herath. I admit I'm biased because Prasad's Maria Sharapova imitation for 125kph irritates me but I also think Kaushal brings more.

Do we have official reasons for the Eranga and Wagner droppings? I read something on here about Eranga's action being checked by Sri Lankan management?

Just checked the score and had a bit of a lol. Sanga owns bones, too good of a player not to go big at least once in this series.

Think that may have been a joke, but no I think he was legit dropped, Lakmal is seen by Vaas as the leader of the attack and management seems to rate Prasad and Pradeep, Given Matthews can be temperamental with the ball I think 3 seamers was necessary but dropping the best of them was a complete brainfart

That's ridiculous. I had Eranga opening the bowling for the Asia XI with Junaid before India remembered Yadav existed. Eranga is a gem for Sri Lanka if they can get the best out of his. Full length, swing, decent enough pace, skiddy etc.

I hope Rutherford can bat a long time tomorrow, this is a great opportunity to play a good innings as we have a good chance of losing the match from this position. This should really be his last chance in my opinion.

Although no idea who would replace him.

Guptill he is the best fielder in the world and should be making the team on that alone

Apparently in the 1800s a chap was picked for a county side for fielding alone. Also we once also gave a game to a 3rd team player because he was a phenomenal fielder and then he dropped a dolly.

Never mind me its been a long day in the sun at the basin carry on chaps.

If you're stuck with choosing unproductive Rutherford or unproductive Guptill then his fielding is the reason to take Guptill. I also think Guptill is a better test opener than Rutherford anyway. Not by much, but he's still the better choice.

Agree. But the selectors' mindset is something along the lines of once you've gone to a particular well, there's no point returning when it's proven shallow - even if the one next to it looks as barren, if not worse. And it's hard to argue that.

Sangakkara is some kind of special. Laughable that Rigor had to defend saying he's a better Test batsman than Tendulkar, when he so clearly is.

Clearly now defined to mean arguably in the 2014 NZ edition of the Oxford Dictionary.

There's really not much you can give me for Sachin>Sanga, apart from weight of runs - which is really only longevity. Not particularly a batting trait. If Sanga played into his 40th year - and gee I wish he would - you'd give him at least even odds of wiping that away as well.

When you have an average in excess of 5 runs more an innings, significantly more double centuries, a triple, basically an identical conversion rate etc, I don't know where you'd go in terms of turning clearly into arguably. Unless you were of a certain nationality.

Sangakkara has 2 or 3 tons on kiwi green tops against Bond, Southee and Boult. The only time Sachin came down here when the pitches were green (hint - not 2008) he was a spud.

Because your standard of batsmanship can clearly only be measured in New Zealand against the greatest attack of all time then clearly Sangakkara = hero and Sachin Flopdulkar = zero.

Seen Sachin play in the 90s and early 00s?
Most certainly I did. If you're going to say most classical, easy on the eye batsman, sure - I agree. But I'm all about output. And based on that, in all conditions and situations, Kumar is your man.

There's no way Sanga could match Tendulkar's longevity, given the job with the gloves in all formats for most of his career. And as I said, career span isn't a batting trait.

Has any fast bowler ever pulled off as many highlight reel catches as Trent Boult. Machine.
Not of the diving one handed variety in the gully region that Boult has done twice now at the Basin.

In the video of the Sangakkara dismissal nice to see the players going up to congratulate him. I was amazed at the tea break when Sangakarra, 139 not out, stopped and signed autographs before going inside. Neesham also stopped to sign autographs. Nice to see.

Starc was involved. Doesn't count.

Now let's look at their figures in England since it suits my predetermined opinion.
