Personally I think Ranatungas spot on when he says that the BCCI has been pathetic as far as allottment of venues goes. Its the worlds second best One day team, and not one of the seven ODIs is being staged in a regular test venue!

Thats not a nice thing to say, especially when your team is baout to face IKP!
If we purely discuss performances, without any bloodshed, Sri Lanka has had the upper hand on India in recent times.

I thought Mohali and Ahmedabad were normal test venues. And Nagpur is one too.

Does Ranatunga know what he is talking about ? Ahmedabad, Mohali & Nagpur aren't regular test venues ? Besides India is a huge country with almost 25-30 cricket grounds in contention to schedule ODI games, BCCI has been follwoing the rotation policy for both tests and ODIs and I guess that was the reason why other regular test venues have missed out.

Edit :- I went to cricinfo to check the schedules of SA-IND ODIs and guess where the ODIs are being played ? Hyderabad, Banglore, Chennai, Kolkata & Mumbai. All(but one) regular venues. Last series was against Pak and the venues were (Cochin, Vizag, Jamshedpur, Ahmedabad, Kanpur, Delhi). I guess I was right about the rotation policy.

It looks like India will go with the following team

Sehwag, SRT, Dravid, Rao, Raina, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Pathan, Agarkar, Harbhajan, Santh & Yadav(Super Sub). Seems like Strong Batting line-up but Raina, Yuvraj, Yadav, Dhoni can struggle against even modest spin bowling.

Didn't Nagpur host a test match against Australia only a year ago?

It still doesnt make sense. SA get the 4 major centres (guess where the best 5 star accomodation facilities are present ?)+ a relatively minor one, but SL do not get any of those. Agreed Mohali and Ahmedabad are more than adequate, but I dont think any visiting team would prefer Ahmedabad over the others mentioned.

Are you saying that Jaipur, Hyderabad, Pune, Mohali (Chandigarh), Ahmedabad, Baroda etc dont have five star accomodation.Incase you didn't know Rajsthan has some of the best 5star hotels in India.

Rajkot seems to be the only city which doesn't have a 5 star accomodation, but that must have been agreed by both the boards, what is the point in cribbing when the tour is about to start. As far as I know Rantunga is a part of BCCSL and he should have pointed this out earlier.

Incase you didn't know this is the same SA team that played a test @ Kanpur, Aus played @ Ahmedabad & Nagpur. This time SA got 4 major venues and it can be because they are either plain lucky or their board asked for these venues in advance.

Its no secret that most teams request the major cities as venues because in addition to the accomodation, thats where all the night clubs are. I can guarantee, bad pitch or not, the Aussies arent going to shy away from requesting Mumbai as a venue next time around too. Its just that some boards are more persuasive than others. After all, whats the worst that could happen if SL werent allotted the major cities ? They cant pay the BCCI back in reverse because they only have 4 venues or so.

Trust me, Murali would like to stay as far away as he can from Cities with Night Clubs and Bar Dancers. :p

To be serious, this problem is there only with India because it is such a huge country with so many cricket associations wanting to get their share of the pie. No one has stopped SL from stating their preference but at the end they must have agreed to the venues, If they didn't then they should have raised it before the series started. Ranatung himself is part of the committee that approvde these venue. As for not payins us back, India does play at smaller venues such as Moratuwa, Dambulla, Multan, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Taunton, Birmingham, Bristol etc and hardly complains.

Is that supposedly a small venue?

Of course playing a game there would have nothing to do with the large Indian population in the city would it?
