"Chandana to Pathan, SIX, six more! and that's another might blow -
Chandana tosses it up, Pathan comes down the track and lofts it
away well over the long-on fence, this time into the stands she
goes - crowd goes wild "

this is making me puke

The best thing(from Indian fan's point) is that two of the best SL bowlers have got only 9 overs left between them. :) Nookie, Yuvraj cant play Murali.
You wouldnt really expect Pathan to be able to play him very well either, yet he has absolutely hammered him.

Either Murali has bowled poorly or the pitch is rediculously flat. Either way, Yuvraj will find playing Murali easier than in the past. Granted though, he did struggle against the might of Prosper Utseya and Gavin Ewing at times against Zim...

Arun Lal was saying it was inexplicable when Pathan was promoted during the Challenger series.

Now he is saying it was a great move which paid off.

Well he cant exactly say it didnt work now, can he?

He probably didnt agree with it at the time, but its clear to everyone now that the move has paid off in this instance.

I have no idea why people overreacted (some on this board too who claimed it was ridiculous) when he was sent to open during the Challenger Series. It was a very good experiment, and what better time to do it then the Challenger Trophy? It was good thinking, and creative, something the Indian team has lacked in recent times. Its proving to be a worthwhile experiment, that's for sure. Pathan has been working on his batting ever since the VB Series back in Australia in 2004 when Wright would pay plenty of attention to his batting. He obviously saw some potential and his promotion in the Challenger Series was just many others seeing it too.

One time doesnt make the move over all a hit. So to once say he finds the move inexplicable and based on one ocassion to say its a great move is not desirable.

I am satisfied with team selections and experimentations right now in the Indian team. For the first time I was not disappointed seeing the squad for a series. And it was not related to Ganguly. Injured players not included etc were the reasons.

He probably still isnt in favour of doing it again, but IN THIS CASE, you cant argue that it was a good move that paid off. If he was still whinging about it, he would sound like a complete imbosile as Pathan has played beautifully.

Well Pathan's out now. 84 off just 69 balls, amazing knock. He's really helped set India up for a massive total.

I have a feeling Dilshan might take a wicket or two here. Very under-rated bowler.
I must admit I was getting worried about my prediction after his first two overs, but there you go..

I am not arguing for or against the move. In general I am for experimatation and I found it funny how Lal would disband the move so quickly. And now call it a great move. :D

One reason I do not rate guys like Sivaramakrishnan, Lal - who just speak on and are very irritating.

Still lot of batting left and RD needs to make sure that we build on this. At this pitch anything less than 300 will be tough to defend.

What a knock by IKP, man this guy is really "once in a genaration player".It wold have been good had IKP got a hundred in the match, hopefully IKP would shine with ball too.

No, Im saying that HE couldnt argue it. He probably still isnt in favour of using the tactic again in the future, but he was commenting that the move paid off.

If you say someone shouldnt be in the side, and the score 400 and take 10 wickets, you wont continually criticise them during the game...

I understand what you are saying. But Lal was more on the lines of 'the move was criticised earlier, people were apprehensive about it earlier when it was tried but it is a great move.' despite his earlier stance.

Who cares any way what Arun Lal thinks. Was just pointing it out.
