You wouldnt really expect Pathan to be able to play him very well either, yet he has absolutely hammered him.Sanz said:The best thing(from Indian fan's point) is that two of the best SL bowlers have got only 9 overs left between them. Nookie, Yuvraj cant play Murali.
Well he cant exactly say it didnt work now, can he?Pratyush said:Arun Lal was saying it was inexplicable when Pathan was promoted during the Challenger series.
Now he is saying it was a great move which paid off.
I have no idea why people overreacted (some on this board too who claimed it was ridiculous) when he was sent to open during the Challenger Series. It was a very good experiment, and what better time to do it then the Challenger Trophy? It was good thinking, and creative, something the Indian team has lacked in recent times. Its proving to be a worthwhile experiment, that's for sure. Pathan has been working on his batting ever since the VB Series back in Australia in 2004 when Wright would pay plenty of attention to his batting. He obviously saw some potential and his promotion in the Challenger Series was just many others seeing it too.Pratyush said:Arun Lal was saying it was inexplicable when Pathan was promoted during the Challenger series.

One time doesnt make the move over all a hit. So to once say he finds the move inexplicable and based on one ocassion to say its a great move is not desirable.Prince EWS said:Well he cant exactly say it didnt work now, can he?
He probably didnt agree with it at the time, but its clear to everyone now that the move has paid off in this instance.
I am satisfied with team selections and experimentations right now in the Indian team. For the first time I was not disappointed seeing the squad for a series. And it was not related to Ganguly. Injured players not included etc were the reasons.Jono said:I have no idea why people overreacted (some on this board too who claimed it was ridiculous) when he was sent to open during the Challenger Series. He probably still isnt in favour of doing it again, but IN THIS CASE, you cant argue that it was a good move that paid off. If he was still whinging about it, he would sound like a complete imbosile as Pathan has played beautifully.Pratyush said:One time doesnt make the move over all a hit. I must admit I was getting worried about my prediction after his first two overs, but there you go..Prince EWS said:I have a feeling Dilshan might take a wicket or two here. Very under-rated bowler.
I am not arguing for or against the move. In general I am for experimatation and I found it funny how Lal would disband the move so quickly. And now call it a great move.Prince EWS said:He probably still isnt in favour of doing it again, but IN THIS CASE, you cant argue that it was a good move that paid off.
No, Im saying that HE couldnt argue it. He probably still isnt in favour of using the tactic again in the future, but he was commenting that the move paid off.Pratyush said:I am not arguing for or against the move. One reason I do not rate guys like Sivaramakrishnan, Lal - who just speak on and are very irritating.
I understand what you are saying. But Lal was more on the lines of 'the move was criticised earlier, people were apprehensive about it earlier when it was tried but it is a great move.' despite his earlier stance.Prince EWS said:No, Im saying that HE couldnt argue it. If you say someone shouldnt be in the side, and the score 400 and take 10 wickets, you wont continually criticise them during the game...
