Thats about his flight and guile more than anything.... and he is better than most. I would play him over Jadeja any day. And as I was just trying to point out, maybe he wont get much assistance first innings but he could become a handful with the 2nd innings. The pitches in SA do break up and dry out over time and give something to the spinners.

As for giving runs away, I dont think he will do any worse than any other spin bowler coming to SA. I hope they don't drop him because I think Ashwin is class.

Oh there is no way they'll drop him, don't worry about that lol. I'd pick him ahead of Jadeja too, despite his 6-fer the last time we toured.

Daemon is right about the accuracy thing though, plenty of spinners in world cricket are ahead of him on that aspect. It is quite crucial to have that attribute for a spinner to provide some sort of control in unhelpful conditions.

he did ok recently on the A team tour to the Windies but obviously he struggled at the top level.. what I don't understand is how Lakmal can score three times as many runs as Mathews in the second innings especially as the latter was playing as just a batsman? Pathetic is a word that comes to mind and all I would ask for as a SL fan is our players to get a backbone and fight. Fair enough if we lose, you cant win every game but at least fight..I cant see how Mathews stays in for the next game personally

Has Angelo Mathews taken his position for granted.Injuries imo has helped him,in fact the exact reason for this form.No responsibility at all.

Poor from selectors even dropping Mendis who had actually scored a 100 Vs India in the 2nd test,and looked the second best after Dimuth in that series.

Agree with you about Angie but have to disagree about Mendis. For me, he has played reckless shots far too often in his short career and thrown his starts away. He has been in awful form after the last tour and I think he will come back stronger after the mental rest he is getting.

Mathews just looks too disinterested in Tests ever since he was removed from the leadership role. I don't think he's head is in the game anymore. At least not in Tests. His form has been downward trending for a good 2 years now - so this is nothing new.

Atm he just looks bored. He has a easy life because he knows - or thinks he won't be dropped. I think that's exactly what needs to happen for him to regain some focus. Or maybe it's what he's aiming at - I dunno.

We are better off having both Mendis and DDS in the side over Mathews right now I think.
