**Official** Sri Lanka in England and Ireland 2016

That really sounds like it didn't happen.
Cricinfo has described it as midwicket rather than square leg, but it was probably about halfway between short midwicket and where the umpire stands. Definitely wouldn't have been considered a close-in fielder anyway.

It's interesting to hear whta he has to say about it.

Shocking batting effort, Lankans have hit good areas but no demons in this pitch at all. Morgan tried to get out like that 50 times in one innings.

Another classy dismissal. Well done Moeen.
Hopefully the TB crowd will give it to them with both barrels during the post-match wake.

Michael Holding's always had a theory that if pick too many batsmen in an ODI side, none of them want to take responsibility for the innings and bat through, and the batting lineup would actually function better with a longer tail.

I've always thought it was largely a crap justification for picking "proper bowlers" that he likes watching bowl (who are often specialists) instead of the bowlers who are actually effective in this format, but on days like this it makes me wonder if there might be something to it sometimes.

Just watch the Mathews inning in the 1st half of today's match to disprove this theory. Batsmen will take responsibility when they want to take responsibility. Angelo wanted to take responsibility today in spite of having Maharoof at no. 9.

Indeed. It's something you simply are not willing to agree upon, as it conflicts with common sense. Yet, I can think of a few instances, both in proper cricket, as well in my own thug level cricket, where decent batsmen start batting in ridiculous fashion, because there are more decent batsmen waiting in for their opportunity.

Not sure if that is what's happening here though. Probably just not being able to find any gear between 1st and 5th.

Right or wrong, that's just louzy anecdotal evidence.

More of an example than an evidence (I used the word 'disprove' wrongly) - PEWS made the point with today's 2nd innings in mind but today's 1st innings itself had an exactly opposite example
