**Official** Sri Lanka in England and Ireland 2016

Hmmmmm, considering these two days of Test play, my initial enthousiasm has suffered from rational thought. This is, despite the performances of Alex, Jonny, Sjoerd & Jimmy, a crap Test. Way, way too one-sided.

Sanga should've retired in this series with a 60 avg and an undisputable #2 all-time argument...

Don't go overboard, the England innings was swinging left and right, lots of great cricket involved. Be happy to have Tests back.

Don`t be un-enthused we saw some good test cricket. That inning be Bairstow was gun, the speed at which he scored has turned out to be quite definite as well. And you saw some real quality fast bowling with Anderson and Broad.

However this was always going to be a one-sided contest. Sri Lanka are both short in the bowling and batting department. And as well as their bowlers played, they weren't nearly as threatening and lots of the wickets came from poor shots (Stokes in particular), slashing at wide ones etc. Sri Lankan`s wickets came largely from the quality of the bowling but also poor technique imo. Except for Mathews and Chandimal, none of the others got into line behind the ball properly to cover the movement. And if you watch most of the edges happened when they followed the ball with there hands after it started to swing/nip off the pitch.

I do hope the SL bat better and at least make Eng bat again,,,,

Well done to Anderson good 5 for.. he and Broad used the conditions well. Hoping for a better performance from SL this innings... would like the game to last at least the weekend.
Watching the highlights, Anderson looked pacier than he had in a while. Does anyone know if the speed guns backed that up at all?
And interesting to hear him talking about how he and Broad operated at different ends to where they'd previously bowled at Headingley, as the knew they hadn't done as well there as they would have expected. Nice self-depreciation in that interview actually, observing that it had only taken him nine years to work that out.

Bairstow seems to belong in that category of players who don't look like they're much cop but find a way to score runs anyway, a bit like Steve Smith. What's changed since he got dropped and returned to the team?

It goes without saying that I hope that we apply ourselves better in this innings and at least show some fight..we need one of the top three to just hang around and accumulate. Enjoy the day England fans as I am off to play today so won't see much at all-who knows I might get a call up if i score a few today lol..

I think a lot of it is confidence and feeling like he belongs. He was always a heavy run scorer in county cricket and got selected because of that and failed because of his technical flaws. He has worked a bit on his game and no longer looks a bowled candidate as soon as it is pitched up and he has scored a ridiculous amount of runs in the last 12 months for Yorkshire and England. Coming into a test side in form always helps and he has cashed in. The comparison with Smith is quite a good one, neither look pleasing on the eye but scoring runs seems easy for both at present. Not sure Bairstow will carry on like Smith has but we can live in hope.

Looks like we might get more play than anticipated here. Looks overcast as well, ball should hoop.

Also it should generally be easier batting at 7 as opposed to 5. Also being wicketkeeper may reduce some of the pressure on him to score runs (as opposed to being selected as a batsman alone) and allow him to play with more freedom.
