This is truly woeful. Reminds me of all those nineties Ashes Tests when England would have a foot in the door and then Healy and Reiffel would put on 100 to put the match beyond them. It's as bad as that. I reckon the match has gone now as far as an England win is concerned. Rain is forecast tomorrow though, thankfully.

I was thinking 1986. We'd been stuffed 5-0 in WI and the selectors' response was to get through half of the players in the CC the following summer. Didn't work though. We lost 2-0 at home to India, including a performance at Leeds as woeful as this one, and lost at home to NZ for the first time ever. Gower started the summer in charge but was gone by the end of the second test.

This test is as bad as I can remember, all things considered. Obviously Cook will get slated and maybe sacked, but he must wonder how the **** he's supposed to compensate for Anderson and Broad bowling abysmally and half the side unable catch a ball.

Jordan gives me that 90s vibe. I dont quite get what he does. Plunkett gives me a late 50s/60s vibe - strong, broad and sharp with an awkward action but the game seems to have moved on a little.

I shouldn't criticise the guy who's been our best bowler, but why is he trying to bounce people out in conditions that shoudl suit pitching it up and letting the pitch do the rest?
In a way, someone doing a 50's / 60's thing would be ideal here.
