BARNES OUT
I swear, if that happened, it would be the greatest day in history. There should be a rule where Murali gets 11 chances at batting himself, just for the sheer entertainment factor.

Hmm, I still don't think they have any chance to win.

But if they pull it off, they will have won despite taking only seven wickets in the entire Test! Has any side ever won when taking seven or fewer wickets in a Test match?

No wickets being taken is the wave of the future. Didn't you know that bowlers are just run-restricters? Seriously, where have you been SS?

Kolkata in 2001 was special at this level too. If you qualify statement with 'in Australia', 'this year' etc could agree.

(Though T20I record this year has been completely unexpected too, to be fair to the Indian players. Pajama cricket for sure, but the team has done it for ~ 7-8 games so may add up to one test match, except for the purest of purists. And in Australia, the tour 4 years ago was not too shabby).

Well, calm down people. Nothing has happened yet :). The odds makers have deemed Sri Lankan to be an 8:1 underdog for a victory, and I think they are being generous to the Lankans.

Though I would certainly consider myself 'the purest of the purists', I do have enough faith in humanity and the majority of mere purists to believe that they would most certainly not consider 7 T20 games to be equivalent to a Test match.

Well, as another 'cricketing purist' I would have to agree, SS.

(Also, is the 20/20 is boring society still taking members? Would like to join)

Its nice to see SL finally winning a session, shame about Atapattu and even worse about Mahela (although he did get an absolute peach of an inswinger that he completely misread). Binga bowled really well though, gave everything he had and then some.

Sanga is too good for MacGill I think, as is Marvan (although MacGill was a little unlucky not to get Sanath who has never been all that flash against spin bowling). But MacGill did bowl some absolute turds across the pitch. I thought he bowled alright in the first test, and especially in the first innings of that test. But in Hobart his spells have, for the most part, been diabolically poor - especially when he has great support and runs to play with.

I dont know where all the SL may win stuff is coming from. We see it all the time when teams are chasing something big and we all hope for something historic but it eventually pans out the way we expect. The team usually falling short by a considerable margin. If Marvan and Sanga were still in, then yes, I would agree, even if Mahela was in with Sanga (and say on a 50). But Sanath, though he has stuck it out has looked unconvincing. However, one good thing he did do was start pushing the singles and rotating the strike when he came in. The last session of play really got Marvan and Sanga bogged down and Sanath's arrival and good running got Sanga back into scoring mood and back into the match. It would be nice if Sanath does say goodbye to test cricket, as I expect him to, with at least a 50 (it would be a good way for him and Marvan to bid adieu to international cricket). Anyway, I dont have high hopes for Silva as he seems to mistake aggression for flailing at every ball - if he could better control and direct his aggression he would be a far better player. And Prasanna though he may hang around for a while is not all that flash, an injured Maharoof and then we have a poor tail. So, in all likelihood I think we may see SL dismissed around lunch time - or maybe, and I hope we make it that far, during the lunch and tea session.

But, it was lovely watching Sanga bat yesterday - too bad I did not see Marvan batting well before tea as I was at work. Lovely stylist that man.

If we're still doing the CW Awards, this one for the Skull. Love how the debate about his batting takes 8 pages.

It would be a well deserved award, mate. That post was funny as.

Also, I am a little ashamed to say it - but I am sort of glad I am working today.

I dont think I would be able to stand the tension of watching this days play - watching the last session yesterday was hard enough, especially the final few overs, pacing around and around fingernails in mouth, and just hoping they dont lose any more wickets before the close of play.

Still, COME ON SRI LANKA!!!
