You realise that the entire Australian team is in India right? No one's turning back to him. He's just all that's left.I didn't want to focus on an individual as I think it's a much broader issue than that but in the case of Finch, he was dumped as captain 12 months ago leading into the WC. Clearly for whatever reason they had a loss of faith in him as leader; why are they turning back to him now?
My overall point is that Oz seem to start planning for the next ODI WC as soon as the current one finishes but I've never sensed any real planning or purpose in the T20 format (with exception perhaps when Clarke was in charge). Maybe the Langer/Ponting/Gillespie coaching setup was a sign that they are starting to treat T20s more seriously, although that amount of coaches seemed overcompensating.
Was a great effort by SL, but pretty abysmal opposition if we're fair about it, these two sides are ranked 7th and 8th in the world at this format currently IIRC.With 16 deliveries left, Sri Lanka needed 46 runs to win with 16 deliveries left and 3 wickets in hand. I’d be surprised if there are many T20 internationals with better comebacks that late in the match than that.
Pretty amazing that Sri Lanka have won this series considering how dire their fielding has been in the two matches (Australia’s hasn’t been exactly stellar either).
They could've asked Bailey to captain, but he's turned his back on them. You realise that the entire Australian team is in India right? No one's turning back to him. He's just all that's left.
This situation is actually not that uncommon for Oz and T20s because they treat the format as an afterthought in their scheduling and also looking to rest their key players from it when possible. You realise that the entire Australian team is in India right? No one's turning back to him. He's just all that's left.
All very true, I was just answering the question as to why they were "turning back" to Finch. This situation is actually not that uncommon for Oz and T20s because they treat the format as an afterthought in their scheduling and also looking to rest their key players from it when possible.
For example, Steve Smith was made captain before last year’s T20 WC and wasn’t successful. You would think if they want him to be viable as a leader in this format he would be captaining as many T20s as possible but he was rested from the SL T20s last year and now because of scheduling isn’t part of this one. And as he’s unavailable for the BBL I’m pretty sure he’s played a grand total of zero T20 in any format over the past 12 months. And yet if there is a WC next year he’ll probably be captain because that’s the way Australia think and treat the format.
Also, the much derided issue of Australia’s Test squad being unavailable for this T20 series is nothing new. On Australia’s last tour of India in 2013 the same situation occurred in Australia’s one-off T20 v the West Indies; as a result the West Indies had their only win over Australia in Australia in any format over the past 20 years.
As a result, Australia rarely have their ‘best’ side in and probably are unsure who it is.
Almost 24 hours and no one has acknowledged my hilarious joke. Not even a ***** like. Dtstl. They could've asked Bailey to captain, but he's turned his back on them.
