Seems to me this fancy all star coaching panel is to blame. Get me Trent Woodhill

Nicely narrated ending by Bill "5/57 and an Australian victory is certain" Lawry.

Another great chapter in Aaron Finch's captaincy resume.

As I said, Henriques should never have bowled that over. Had to have gone to Cummins that over, or wait until the final 4 overs and give Henriques his over in the middle.

Tye's bowling wasn't smart either.

Predictions for the second innings:

SL will pick the gaps much better than us.
We'll bowl long hops down the leg side because 'yorkers aren't worth it'.
Finch'll under bowl Turner, again

Loss by five wickets with 3 remaining.
2.5/3 Pretty good. Margin of victory was closer than expected.

this was tye's 5th t20 and he's now been hit for four off the last ball to lose the game in 3 of them

i think he'll take the 19th next game

Arun Finch couldn't captain a sixth grade side. It's like he sets the field to leak runs and he can't handle the bowlers at all.

Was just thinking back Ben McDermott's innings in the BBL. Isn't it funny that these 'blinder' innings occur when Finch is captain and are usually accompanied by leaky fields and many long hops?

In terms of losing from an unlosable position, that was almost as bad for Oz as the ODI v SL in 10/11 with that insane Malinga/Mathews partnership.

Re: why Oz lost, I think it's broader than the bowling and tactics.

Since T20 internationals have began, Oz have almost always treated the format semi-seriously and it always makes itself felt in the little details that decide matches like this.

Almost always other international sides seem tactically more wise whereas Oz seem to think if you just play well that's enough. It's the prime reason why they do so poorly at T20 WC's and now can barely even win a home T20.

Well, knowing how to set fields, work a bowling order, and things such as practising yorkers are hardly revolutionary aren't they?

Surely this doesn't fly at all when Finch has captained a domestic T20 side for some years now.

I didn't want to focus on an individual as I think it's a much broader issue than that but in the case of Finch, he was dumped as captain 12 months ago leading into the WC. Clearly for whatever reason they had a loss of faith in him as leader; why are they turning back to him now?

My overall point is that Oz seem to start planning for the next ODI WC as soon as the current one finishes but I've never sensed any real planning or purpose in the T20 format (with exception perhaps when Clarke was in charge). Maybe the Langer/Ponting/Gillespie coaching setup was a sign that they are starting to treat T20s more seriously, although that amount of coaches seemed overcompensating.
