What has happened to this man?

sacricketmag.com/future-star-hermann-rolfes/

Is he still finishing off his qualifications? Is he playing at all?
Wonder if he is playing club cricket ?

2018 u19 CWC squad.

Breetzke, Pillay, van Tonder, Roelfes, Makwetu, du Plessis, Niemand, Mokgakane
de Klerk, Molefe Smith
Coetzee, Ntini, Mnyaka, Jones

Fraser Jones has definitely stopped playing the game.

2016 u19 CWC squad

Smith, de Zorzi, Verreynne, Moonsamy, Foxcroft, Ludick, Sayanvala, Makwetu
Mulder, Galiem
Philander, Whitehead
McKerr, Sipamla, Abrahams

Smith moved to England. McKerr plays for Surrey.
Foxcroft and Ludick are burgeoning talents in New Zealand
Good to see no one stopped the game ?

2014 U19 CWC winning squad

Markram, Valli, Christoffels, Oldfield, Dial, Smith, Fortuin, Bruwer, Makhanya
Phehlukwayo, Bopp
Rabada, Bosch, Sigwili, Dill

Dial and Oldfield tried their luck in England.
Maybe only Bopp and Sigwili stopped playing ? Bruwer hasn't played in over a year. Christoffels/Fortuin seems to have got to a stage where he can't hold a provincial place.

Good to see Temba get a 100 after a couple of failures since returning.

Second, Petersen, de Bruyn haven't showed superiority yet since dropping down from the SA group.

Watched much of the morning at session at Paarl, where Boland are currently 71-0, the pitch just looks so lifeless. No real pace, no lateral movement, like most games played here presumably ?

Yup. That is Paarl for you. Think Cape Town summer heat and add 5 degrees there. It just gets so hot. Best hope is the bounce gets low and some turns happens later on.

Most of the out grounds have traditionally been good for batting ie Kimberley, Potch from a decent pace and bounce perspective. East London & Pietermaritzburg probably similar to Paarl but humid to dry heat the difference. Benoni just turgid or dangerous

Tony De Zorzi with a ton
Good, I like de Zozi.

Nice to see so many of the youngsters (20 to 25 age) getting runs.
Real pleasing to see him go on and get a big one. Batting time out in the middle is where you learn so much to hopefully make it a habit.

Breetzke also set for his first 4-day hundred but Warriors team position more important.

Both hopefully kick on from this as their white ball stuff has been too dominant considering their talent.

I guess dangerous keeps it interesting at Benoni!

Yes there certainly needs to be more in it at Paarl, more of a contest between bat and ball, if batsmen remain patient they can be there all day.

Ideally yes, but one of SA advantages, is it's variation in pitches, flat, turning, slow and then pace and bounce in the highveld. It was one of the reasons that SA was capable of being so good overseas for so long. Hopefully, that comes back sooner rather than later.

Yes I completely accept that, and we do encounter pitches like the one at Paarl in Test cricket these days to ensure the games lasts the full five days, so valid point. I think what I'm getting at overall is that pitches like this shouldn't really be acceptable at any level, especially from Provincial and upwards, but while they're present at Test level you have to equip players with the skills to succeed when they get to play on them.

You are 100% correct. Paarl is one (if not the) flattest wicket in the country. Great place for T20 cricket.

I am suspecting that Newlands may have flattened out...
:D Just a tad. Really surprising the Titans didn't play Shamsi.

Thought the wrist spinner looked the most threatening during the test match. Could almost have played a finger spinner and the wrist spinner there.

This Jade de Klerk batting with Breetzke. Were in the last u19 CWC together. Still has a way to go as a bowler but really has batting potential too as well as a very good fielder. Considering Niemand, Mnyaka, Ntini, Qeshile, Sipamla and the likes are coming into the system. The East Cape is producing cricketers in numbers at the moment.

Will go into Cubs Week later but there is a fine batch of talent in that Warriors team and they young even without the SA u19 players.

Smuts taking 22 wickets tells you everything about the quality of cricket on show. Worst I can recall. Big knock from Bavuma but any international batsman should be reeling off hundreds against these attacks. It’s a big worry.
