Ridley Jacobs would be very disappointed in you. :p
The ridiculously poor 'keeping is new too.
You have a point I suppose. But Jacobs hardley got noticed as Stare-'em-to-death Dillon sprayed them wide or got clobbered trying to be Learie Constantine and Martindale rolled in one.

Jacobs spent most of his time colectimg throws from the deep and claiming stumpings while the ball was in some other part of his anatomy :p

And yet he procured 219 dismissals in 65 Tests. :p
Had he played as many Tests as Healy, he'd have had more dismissals.

No no. I was not serious. He was pretty good. Infact he even batted better than he was given credit for.

Declaration at 548/9, now to see if the West Indies can survive at least two-thirds of the remaining 170-odd overs.

Congratulations, you've just proved how silly it is to look at stats alone.

As was stated above and is infinitely clear to those who have watched the game without bias, the West Indies batted extremely poorly. No educated cricket spectator in his/her right mind can say truthfully that the West Indies has bowled poorly.
So in effect, what you're saying is, good bowling constitutes being knocked for 521 runs?
You're right, I obviously don't know much about the technical side of cricket. What I do know is that the object of the game is to bowl the other side out, whilst giving away the least possible runs. Were the Saffies batting strokes that superb? Did most of the side bat spectacularly? Seemed like ordinary batting to me. Nothing like Lara's masterful strokes and technique. I obviously don't know that much about batting either, it seems. :-O

at 17/3 glad the see the windies playing back to their usual selves
Why on earth do they keep picking Gayle... the man has lost all sense on batting. :@

Chris Gayle:

12 runs @ 3.00, 7 wickets @ 21.57.

As Neil and I figured out yesterday - Pickup-esque figures.

South Africa bowling well, but haysuse (!) the West Indies' technical incompetence is shocking! Gayle was out to a harmless delivery, Sarwan looked a tailender in negotiating the delivery he got from Ntini and Hinds had but to play straight to survive.

The delivery Lara was out to was not a wicket-taking ball. I think he should be kicking himself for getting out to it. Chanderpaul was a bit unlucky, but Dwayne Bravo ( :@ ). How long will it be before Bravo realizes that that brainless shot gets him out? It's not rocket science.

I never expected the West Indies to save this match, but I did hope that South Africa would be made to bowl threatening deliveries to take the wickets.

Its not technical incompetency. Its lack of maturity shown on the part of batsmen which is annoying and frustrating for you.

Batsmen throwing away their wicket is indeed one of the biggest pains as a cricket watcher.

I wouldnt call Gayle very technically competent, but I expected a lot better from the others.. I guess Sarwan was still batting on day one, hence he avoided the ball he got

The reasons for the dismissals were more to do with poor shots than technical incompetency, whether Gayle or some one else which Liam was getting at.

No, it's technical incompetence when you're continually dismissed trying to leave the ball alone by pulling the bat inside the line.
It's technical incompetence when you can't handle the short ball in any other way than pulling or hooking.
It's technical incompetence when you can't manage something as simple as to play straight.

Your tone in the earlier post was more to do with the anguish of seeing poor shot selection that technical incompetence.

Frustration wouldnt arise due to technical incompetence one would imagine as you cant do more than what you are technically competent to do.

My tone? If you read what I posted you'll see exactly what I mean. I'm not sure where the 'y' came in though...

Technical incompetence is the cause for the downfall of the top three batsman. Frustration stems from the fact that they aren't competent enough in technique to stay around. Pretty clear...

A big congratulations in order to Andre Nel tonight..

Im liking his attitude now, he's got the whole in your face without bringing the game down perfectly toned now.. He bowls with heart and I quote "Sometimes my heart comes outta my face" (Paint turtle that one).. Looks like the man from Boksburg has Lara's number as well.. He, Steyn, Ntini and Zondeki leave me feeling slightly happy about SA's pace department in the future.. Its great to see such enthusiasm again from SA..

I keep telling myself not to feel sorry for the West Indies, because one day they will start making me regret it.. But today Shiv was just clueless... The decline is starting to seem harsh on one or two of their guys now.. Especially poor old Jimmy Adams and Courtney in the Sky studio, not to mention Lara..

2-0, have a great day on the surfboards tomorrow boys, you've earned it :)

And I love your new icon. Accepting the torch has passed from the great AAD to Ntini and Nel now. Awesome to see South Africa win.

I was just thinking.. Tonight could well have been the night the torch was handed over, so I decided to make that.. I think I can at least compare Nel to my most admired cricketer ever, I certainly see the passion, and I'm starting to see the results..

WI have been producing some seriously good wickets, and AAD would have been proud of getting Lara 8 times in 6 tests.. In fact, he would have been beside himself.. Ntini is bowling with venom too

And we did it all without Polly :)
