Im convinced you need something rapid to get anything out of these West Indian pitches
Not all WI pitches are this placid. A few have a bit of pace in them. If you bowl well you'll get rewards. Bourda however is an exception.

This is my WI team.

Lara
Chanderpaul
Bravo
Browne
Powell

Washington

Washington gets a try for me. In the last few games of the season he bowled well.Bravo can pick up in the bowling if Washington fails. Also, he's similar to Collymore in that he can swing the ball and more plus the extra batting so that gets him in there. I really would not like to see Browne in there. He serves no purpose really IMO. Either Ramndin or Baugh should replace him come the Pakistan series or at least Baugh for the SA ODI Series. Browne's not really that proficient a batsman anymore and his keeping is not up to it.

Ah well, as long as he enjoy`s himself, that`s good, because Washington won`t be getting another game. 8-)

And Browne`s keeping has looked good to me, I`m not too worried about his average batting either.

I'm tempted to say that I'd eat Richard's computer if Washington plays ahead of Bravo. Dear God I hope he doesn't!

Of Ramdin and Baugh, Ramdin is a FAR superior gloveman. Baugh is supposedly the better batsman, though Ramdin played quite well after a fairly slow start to his season.

He kept very well in the ICC Champions Trophy and the VB Series, but has not had the best of times in Tests for the West Indies over the years. He dropped a couple of chances in the first Test, one of which was Kallis in the 20s - how crucial was that? They weren't easy chances by any means, but somehow I can't see Jacobs having dropped either of them.

I highly doubt even the great Kallis is so capable. He would then have scored 8 centuries in 8 consecutive Tests against the West Indies. He played well in the first Test, but it was a weary West Indian attack on a flat pitch.

They can't afford to drop Browne now. He not only adds an experience head in terms of leadership and performance (see CT), but I don't think now is the time to introduce Ramdin or recall Baugh. Baugh is a worse 'keeper than Browne IMO.

From what I`ve seen of Baugh, he looked a rather awful keeper to be honest. And that innings alongside Bradshaw was legendary...

To be fair to him, Baugh did improve a lot on the West Indies tour of England. He's still hovering around Geraint Jones' level though.

Assuming everyone's fit, I don't think there's any prospect of Washington playing.

I share your concerns about Browne - he was awful on Day 5 - but it would be harsh to drop him after his consistent excellence in the Champions Trophy. He'll need to raise his game in Trinidad though and, regardless, I'd try out the younger 'keepers in the one-dayers.

My real concern for the 2nd test is whether team spirit will be affected by the changes in personnel and all the "baggage" the C&W players bring. Lara's attitude will be key, but I do expect him to be supportive of Shiv.

If Wavell Hinds can cement his place in the side this season, he'd probably be my pick for the longer-term captaincy.

Half the players who participated in the first Test and won't do so in the second Test made next to no impact on the match. The most significant Devon Smith sighting was his dropped catch off Rudloph and I refuse to believe Ganga was present at all.

I'm pretty certain the likes of Lara, Gayle and Sarwan are keen to play. I haven't heard much from Bravo lately to comment.

Certainly, from a cricketing point of view, the changes are 100% correct. I wonder though, whether the captaincy issue in particular might cause tension and affect performances.

I think you're right about Ganga. I didn't spot him.

from lara's previous behaviours i dont think he would support shiv as captain.(probably a whole education level thing or just laras rotten attitude)

I think Lara's canny enough to be seen to be giving his full backing to Shiv on the field of play. Behind the scenes any resentment he may harbour about Digicel replacing him as West Indies captain, might cause problems.

If you're referring to his attitude in the 90s, you're very much behind the times. Brian Lara is clearly an entirely different player and person since then. He's much more focussed on cricket and I don't see him having any hard feelings aside from the natural resentment for Digicel. I mean, anyone would have such feelings if he/she lost the captaincy in such a manner.
