I think these were important knocks for both De Bruyn and Bavuma. They're the ones who've been tasked with taking the South African batting forwards, and they need to show that they can do the job. Bavuma has kind of established himself as something of a crucial 30-odd specialist, so it was good for him to go beyond that - 63 in the context of the series is a good score, and De Bruyn is a better batsman than his results prior far to this match have shown.First time I've seen him really look comfortable in the green and gold. Hopefully, he continues to get opportunity and plays well. We need some good batsmen.
Positives are Maharaj (bar first day of first test) bowled well and did what we needed of him. Good to have a decent spinner, Rabada still looked good, even if he did not get quite the number of wickets. Shamsi did well in his test. Else no positives to talk about regarding the batting, except for this final day.Took the game deeper than I thought and nigh on 300 runs 4th innings on the subcontinent is not bad. Not many positives to take from the series but South Africa would be happy with what they saw today.
Now wait for him to score one good innings and 'prove the doubters wrong'.Hash was averaging 52.4 after 81 tests current average 47.2 surely he needs to call it quits as the decline is permanent
Won't quit with the WC coming up and the opening partnership with QDK so entrenched. Big call to remove him. After the WC can see him retiring. It is so sad to see such an extreme and sudden decline of a player of his quality.Hash was averaging 52.4 after 81 tests current average 47.2 surely he needs to call it quits as the decline is permanent
