It really just depends on the natural conditions in a place, doesn't it? If the make up of the soil or whatever means you can't produce pitches that start off assisting bowlers, then flatten, then turn late, well you can't do it. I'd think (but don't know for sure as I'm no groundsman), that you can no more make this pitch into a 1st day seamer than you could turn the WACA into a raging turner.
You may be able to tinker a bit with them - a little more moisture, a bit less grass cutting, but at the end of the day, the square will have its certain characteristics, and you do the best you can to prepare a decnt deck within those parameters.

The thing is, I understand when a pitch is completely flat for 5 days, as some pitches in India (and elsewhere, mind you) have been, then one can make that argument. But we have only seen 2 days on this track. Already, from whatever I heard, this pitch is having a bit of bounce. So if it does help spinners around day 4, then it will be interesting.

The thing is, let us not conclude that this is a flat track just because a) the match is in India and b) it has been flat so far. Some posters here just have to deride everything Indian........ 8-)

No, I was saying that the "atm" on the end of your post was wrong, given the day's play had finished some twelve hours earlier. It's not really important at all, but it added to the "WTF" reaction I had to my post.
Okay. If you want to be predantic about it. Next time I will make sure I'm in the right time frame when I make a point. Doesn't make it crap does it? Oh well. Each to their own.

In any case, how flat is this wicket. Is there enough time to get a result?

not really. I think it will be a draw but then dramatic things have happened at the Chepauk before....

right now it is 85% draw and 15% result, for me.......

Am I hearing things or is Harris getting booed for this? The pitch map tells the whole story. Ridiculously negative.

Sehwag kicks ball away in disgust.........

Harris having to resort to negative bowling against him.

heard Amla got a great ovation yesterday. Nice to see that Chepauk crowd is still keeping up our reputation of being sporting. :)

Harris had a couple of balls go through the top so if we can score at a good rate untill mid to late tommorow and get a lead, our spinners could be deadly.

Haha will Jaffer go down as one of the over-rated players now? Scores runs against everybody else but in Australia Brett Lee had him for breakfast, lunch and tea.

Where's social when you need him? Jaffer in India is anything but a walking wicket.

That's all very well and good but what about away from home and SE Asia as well? To me that is also very crucial and if he does have the technique to get runs or being able to adapt in Australia, that also tells me another thing as well, no?

Did well against the Windies and was alright in England. Solid player who had problems with the world's form bowler. I see nothing really wrong with that.
