Only saw the Vaughan replay once from side on with snicko, couldn't that sound have been made from bat hitting the pad?

Bat wasnt close to pad. However, that sound could have been generated by almost anything, so I dont see how Snicko proves that it is conclusively out. If the edge was loud enough for the umpire to have heard it, then one would think Vaughan and Boucher would have heard it too.

Didn't look like it, space between bat and pad. It does look like the only noise could of been from a very faint edge.

KP giving as "caught Prince" now apparently, not LBW.

AFAIK, it only uses sound feed from the stump-mic. The only thing that could have made that noise apart from bat on ball was Vaughan thudding his front-foot down. I didn't look closely enough to see whether that's possible.

Referrals would have been damn interesting, especially Vaughans
Is a reason to keep referrals out of the game IMO.

I thought it was out but I couldn't see the third umpire giving it. Those type of decisions are best left to gut when the technology can't make the decision for you.

KP's just outside the line for mine, but marginal enough not to argue about..even though it was given caught. Strauss the villain for mine. cook looking alright tbh. Vaughan making a straight one look good again...just a shame we gifted Nel 2, he wasn't bowling that well

Its not the first time that Snicko has registered an edge when there hasnt been one. Theres been many occasions before despite bat not being close to bat and sometimes even when players dont appeal that snicko has registered an edge. As I said, Boucher's reaction says it all. If that was an edge, the only person that knew about it was Snicko.

Well another mini collapse of 3 wickets in not so many balls. England seem to be making a habit of this. All we need now is for Bell and Cook to make a 200+ partnership and we'll be fine!

3 wickets down at lunch isnt that bad though. You always expect to lose a couple with the new ball. But its just the manner at which we seem to always lose wickets in bunches. I love Vaughan as a captain, probably the best in my lifetime. But he's place is really going to be in doubt if he keeps this up. I know if he can just get through the first 30 mins or so he's got a good score in him but he really has to sort his footwork early on out and do it quickly or he's gonna lose his place.

I think the only thing saving him is the lack of replacements for the captaincy.

Well, they are on their way to a decent partnership, but according to cricinfo they do not look that safe.

Anyway, after this partnership, England have 3 batsmen that all 3 have to prove a point with the bat. England have opportunities to bat themselves out of any kind of trouble.

Judging by some of the balls Nel and Morkel are getting to rise off a good length, England might be wishing they'd picked Harmison. Especially if the ball doesnt swing come the SA innings.
