*Official* South Africa in England Thread

I think it's going to be a case of survival for South Africa from now on - a 'war of attrition'. I expected the ball to start creeping along the ground (always does at Trent Bridge this season) but the occasional steepling bounce spells big trouble for South Africa.

Then again, the ball could go soft and Kallis could smash it to all parts.

I think the only way they were going to get smith out was hit wicket...

Interesting, he seemed to get to 35 without anyobody noticing, and only scoring 35 seemed like a huge failure...

smith gone-if they get kallis they have a massive chance of winning this test. i am really starting to believe LE-Englands score was quite good.

On the first morning, I thought 300 would be good.

I think that may have been a little sadistic, but 445 is looking very strong, but SA do have a deep batting line up. 350, I think, is the target for SA here.

I'm beginning to think the same.

Smith played and missed at least 4 times, got 2 boundaries through the slips (albeit all along the ground) and looked terribly vulnerable for a while - but it was still a major surprise to get him out.

Well South Africa couldn't finish the tail off so England can really push for a victory.

It'll be really interesting if South Africa fail to avoid the follow on.

Once again Flintoff has failed, if starts performing with the bat and prove that his two centuries were not flash in the pans, I might change my opinion on him. He lacks the complete in ability to take wickets with a average of 52 and a strike rate of over 100, sorry that is not good enough.

Since it is unlikely we will see White in the England colours who I rate better then Flintoff (I have never rated him), then why to England bother playing sub-standard cricketers calling himself an "all-rounder". I dont see the point in playing bits-and-pieces.

Ntini is once again adisappointment. He can bowl much better then has, he is lacking accuracy on a consistant basis and at times bowling balls down the leg side. It is one things to be taking wickets, but you MUST be accurate

Erm, Hello?

Did you not see that 11 over spell he bowled today?!

Yes, he only picked up 1, but yet again his figures do not tell the whole story by a long way.

One spell doesnt prove anything. His wicket was due to some luck. He was unlucky at Lords, but you cant deny he has been a failure over the years.

If you choose not to, I will seriously wonder about your creditability. You have to know a thing or two about cricket to be a Cricket Web writer, but some of the stuff you say is mindbogling.

South Africa 93/4 with Kirtley who was on a hat-trick:

33.5 Kirtley to Rudolph, OUT: first Test wicket! good length delivery, pitched outside the off stump and angling away, Rudolph pushes at it and gets a thick edge, Stewart takes a simple catch and Kirtley celebrates

South Africa 88/3, Partnership of 22
JA Rudolph c Stewart b Kirtley 15 (45b 3x4 0x6)
JH Kallis 11* (40b 1x4) RJ Kirtley 10.5-3-25-1 (1nb)

Dippenaar is the new batsman
33.6 Kirtley to Dippenaar, OUT: duck! good length delivery, pitched wide outside the off stump and came back in sharply, Dippenaar moves across to play and gets hit on the pad, huge appeal and umpire Hair raises his finger, South Africa in trouble

South Africa 88/4, Partnership of 0
HH Dippenaar lbw b Kirtley 0 (1b 0x4 0x6)

well done kirtley.:cool2: you've done well to capture your first two test wickets in two balls. and against good batsmen too!

South Africa are in a bit of bother it seems.

Just the 2 all-rounders Pollock & Hall aswell as Boucher to come so alot resting on Kallis & McKenzie to get S.A very close if not past the follow on mark.

Well its morning on Day 3..so if S.A stumble & fail to avoid the follow on then they'll be fighting for 2 days on a pitch which looks very poor to be honest.

So England will feel they've got a firm grip on this match.
