Don't forget Thorpe!

And the spinner rotation always interested me. Giles-Tuffers-Salisbury-Croft-Such all have such horrible records don't they?
Richard Illingworth had a fair run at it too.

Bit harsh to bracket Such in with the rest though. The best pure bowler amongst them for my quid, but never got an extended run because he was a proper tailender.

I'm pretty sure Emburey was given a few tests in the 90s too, despite being as old as time and having two rebel tours under his belt.

Ah, 90s England. Probably the nadir.

The revolving door that seems to be England cricket at the moment.

Must give opposition teams analyst a headache - really earning their salary
Ironic because England don't seem to have analysts any more. They have people who look at numbers on a computer screen. Actual technique and assessing character is out of fashion.

That is because Bayliss who is just a white ball idiot cannot even be arsed to attend county games.

Roland-Jones has been around the county circuit for years. I'm surprised somebody does not know who he is.

Which anagrams would we like to see make their test debuts?

Toby Roland-Jones anagrams to 'Enjoy Bat on Lords', which is excellent news until you remember that the first test was at lords, and that playing at the Oval means he might have to make do with 'Barest London joy'.

Dawid Malan has also missed a trick not coming in for the test at Nottingham, he was there at the time having a good 'Midland Waa'. It's unlikely the selectors could have been so foolish, unless someone trusted gave them advice. It's possible 'A Lawman Did'.

I keep thinking Joe Clarke should make the team, but in reality that's my bias thinking and really it would be a clear joke if he got selected at this point. \

Tom Kholer Cadmore is probably lined up to be more of a one day player, but if he does make the test team apparently he'll only play if his bat is made by a really shiny craftsman. We'd have to find a chromed toolmaker.

Liam Livingstone was in line for a test place, but apparently has fallen foul of the selectors, sending them violent mailings after his poor white ball performances.

You must be too young to remember the late 1980's. The home series in 1986, 1988 and 1989 are the stuff of legend.

At least England in the '80s beat the Aussies and India, whereas in the 1990s they couldn't beat anyone.

What sort of speed does he bowl? Does he swing the new ball much? Does he use reverse swing at all? How is his average away from Lord's? etc.

Is it becoming a common theme these days to back the domestic hard yarder rather than the young tyro for batsmen ? Modern game not toughening them up in terms grit mixed with stroke play early enough (being able to keep the good one's out ?)

Gut feel selections not happening enough or the one's that are , aren't coming off enough?

Medium-fast traditional style English seamer who targets off stump and gets the ball to nibble around.

Basically a little faster than Phillander. Martin Bicknell esque accuracy. Could get absolutely walloped on roads.
