Moeen is a total gun. As I said before the series England fans, I'll trade you a Duminy for a Moeen any day haha.

Yes. Woolley, Bythe, Chapman, Underwood, Ames, Denness, Cowdrey: all shite.
I was actually thinking recent years where Denly, Bell-Drummond, Key and Northeast have all been hyped as the next great thing and none have really gone on.

You really are argumentative just for the sake of it. No wonder you spend as much time banned as you do on here.

Mo as a bat has a far superior record than Flintoff had, Mo as a bowler has a similar record to Giles. For all his faults at times that is pretty decent.

His batting record is better than quite a few specialist batsmen with decent England records eg Gatting, Butcher. My guess is he'll probably end up averaging about 37 or 38 with the bat, which is about Nasser Hussain, Atherton, although both batted in harder positions. Its not inconceivable he could end averaging about 37.5 with the ball which was where Tufnell finished his career. As a spinner he's no Monty or Swann but his record is in the pack with the other post Underwood spin bowlers. Because England have just had 2 of their best spinners people tend to forget how bad our spin bowling has been for most of the last 40 years.

Even if Moeen ends up averaging 40 or thereabouts with the ball, better to do that while winning England a couple of games every year, and bowling teams out when conditions suit, rather than be the guy who churns out a steady 2/70 most of the time (latter day Vettori for example).

No fight in that 2nd innings. Very disappointing and concerning from a SA point of view. One thing SA have always done is fight hard, regardless of the quality of the team.

I really have no idea why you are bringing up Finn, he's not in the squad, in the end his record in tests was better than Onions for most of his career, despite the small matter of him being 6 years younger. I was at the ground for Onions greatest moment, so I love him for that, but consistent injuries was always a problem.

Why would England care if our top 3 is stodgy when we have Root, Stokes, Bairstow, Ali, Woakes, Broad to come? we consistently score runs at a ridiculously high rate, it really isn't remotely a problem.

you talk as if ballance has failed throughout his england career, it's just not true at all, he was hugely successful at first.

Again I probably wouldn't pick him, I even think he could be a passenger, but it's not the travesty you make out, and again this is the least "stodgy" England team I've ever known.
If Finn is not in the team, he soon will be. And I'm not sure about what Onions' injuries you refer to, and in what particular season, but he took 72 wickets in 2012, the year he fell out of favour with the selectors; 73 wickets in 2013, 69 in 2015 and 55 in 2016. You can only mean 2014 (or perhaps this season). His omission ahead of the 2013-14 Ashes was a disgrace.

Given the fight in the opening session of day 4 it was a surprise.

Also you usually regard SA as a good fielding side who don't give you loads of chances and they were pathetic in this game.

Has Bell-Drummond ever played for England? He'd be another one.

I'm merely stating my opinions. If I think people are speaking a complete load of cack about, say Mark Wood or Ballance, I will say as such.

didn't see the play yesterday as was playing but what happened to SA chasing a fairly gettable total with plenty of time? Ali is a decent bowler but am surprised to see him rip through a team like that?

The point I am making is people hype up Kent players constantly but their best player in years is currently 42 who didn't start bowling properly till he was about 35. If Kent have such a good set of players how come they have been stuck in Division 2 for years and not really threatened to go up?

Maybe because they are nowhere near as good as the hype.

Apart from a couple of overs in the 2nd innings, he was consistently bowling very good areas and not giving anything like the freebies he sometimes has in the past. Had assistance from the pitch too.

I sort of wonder if SA just thought they could go after him like some teams have in the past, regardless of the above

Yeah 3 changes for a team that just absolutely paddled SA. That's not a completely ridiculously stupid idea at all

Lol i would only change jennings and ballance because i dont think they should be playing for england in the first place, which has nothing to do with their performance.
