**Official** South Africa in England 2012

That was stupid from Jimmy, a strangle down the leg side. He should have just ducked and played for Swanneh.

Still, he can now redeem himself with his bowling-around-corners ability.

As others have said, hardly any of England's wickets were actually forced out by South Africa. Too many gifted wickets.

If England can get a few wickets cheaply here, then I think it will go a long way towards winning the game. Can only see bowling getting easier for them as it goes on, and the conditions become overcast again.

Good total, but not a great total. I still think this pitch is very good for batting.

The game is interestingly poised.
From an England point of view they have the runs on the board and can only lose this game if they bat badly next innings. England in the box seat at the moment, but too early to call a result (obviously).

I definitely don't think 385 was a particularly good score considering the mediocre standard of South Africa's bowling so far and the flatness/slowness of the pitch. I can't really see England losing from here however given the weather around so they're in a really good position anyway.

Well if he's flattered by his average, that's the myth innit?

I'm not saying he's ********, but I think Broad is a better tail end batsman than him.
Well averaging over 40 in Test cricket isn't he, so i'd say yes it does a bit but still he's a good batsmen especially for a bowling all-rounder. I'd say what Brensan has over Broad is a better technique and he's more consistent.

Good fightback from South Africa to restrict England to under 400. The slow run-rate came back to haunt England.

Try watching the game next time son. The pitch is not slow by any stretch of the imagination (literally no idea where you have got that from) and whilst not a minefield or even close it is doing enough off the surface (see Philander to Broad). The Saffers bowled very very well this morning, Steyn in particular was on fire. There is also no rain projected for the next 3 days and only a slight chance of rain today.

All in all you couldn't be more wrong.

?!

Have you not seen how little carry there is? Definition of a slow pitch.

You not seen the delivery De Villers took just before it broke his nose? Rattled through. Broad just got a length ball through to Prior's ears.

Pace of the pitch is fine.
