Err I don't think Strauss' captaincy was anything exceptional and given what a millstone he was with the bat and in the field I don't think his retirement will have a detrimental impact on England. The only thing you arguably miss is the leadership, but England seemed to win games they were dominating and lose the closer ones. The tactics and so on is mostly dictated behind the scenes.Must be a good chance we lose 4-0 to India and I'd put Aus as favourites for next ashes with or without KP now.
You live in London don't you? Pretty sure you'll be sick of ramps by the time the Paralympics is over.Bring back Ramps.
Had to do a shameful double, then triple take of that before it clicked.
I said during the Tests he should have an op to fix it as soon as he can, if possible. He really is little use to us ATM. Would rather have Monty, Kerrigan or Tredwell. For ODIs Briggs is a certainty, with perhaps Keedy or Rashid as long-shots.Swann rested for the remaining ODI's. Swann's elbow must be in pieces to be rested mid-series like this with Eng 1-0 down. Probably also sheds some light on dropping him for the Headingly Test- possibly more resting than dropping.
Raises real concerns for the Indian tour for me regarding Swann. Might make it but doubt he goes to New Zealand.
Yeah, I would go with Briggs for limited overs games too. He's the only one of the three to have bowled a maiden in the CB40 this season, although he's only bowled one. Has youth on his side and seems a very calm young man. Left arm though so could be viewed as too similar to Patel, although he bowls it much slower than Patel, I think.I said during the Tests he should have an op to fix it as soon as he can, if possible. Is Philander ever going to get a go in the test team? Has a quality record and clearly a good bat too.
I doubt it. He really does have an absolutely amazing record but he looked village with both bat and ball in his limited overs campaign, which probably shouldn't count for much but it will. On top of that he dropped some absolute sitters. I'd really like to see him picked just to satisfy my curiosity about his record, but whether it's actually a good idea or not is another matter.
Can't believe I haven't dug these before. Basically what I am claiming here is that Philander got his chance because of me, it can't really be doubted. And PEWS WAC.Yeah I'd like to see how he goes, especially considering they don't have an obvious 1st change bowler performing. Never seen him play but 61 FC games at an average of 20 is quite astounding, so they may as well give him a go surely.
Agreed. Well done. Can't believe I haven't dug these before. Basically what I am claiming here is that Philander got his chance because of me, it can't really be doubted. And PEWS WAC.
Haha, I was really keen to see him picked; I'd dig up my posts about it just before his debut if I could be bothered. I just really didn't think he ever actually would for the reasons I gave; it took a change in coach for him to be finally given a game. Can't believe I haven't dug these before. Yeah, I'd been wanting to see him picked for a while at that point, so I was more or less just giving you the explanation for his non-selection that I'd gathered, rather than justifying it. I taste a lot of things on CW but if I had to taste the Test success of a long-term successful First Class bowler from a good domestic system I'd cease to be Cribbage.Nah I know, that did come across in your post. I dug it because I remembered posting something about Philander before his debut wondering why he wasn't playing, but in reality I was someone who had no idea about the South African first class system, or Philander's bowling, asking the obvious question based on his crazy statistics.
Swann looked pretty good in the One dayers against Australia. Then again that doesn't mean much I guess considering how they are at the moment.I said during the Tests he should have an op to fix it as soon as he can, if possible. I know I'm just saying he should be in our long term plans for ODI's at least.
