**Official** South Africa in England 2012

It's kind of annoying sometimes in test cricket when you get situations like this where, despite both teams essentially being on level terms in the match, only one team has a chance to win. Seems a bit unfair.
 Which team were you referring to again?

Exactly. A draw is a fair outcome here, because SA were going to be under weather-induced pressure more than anything of England's making (and they still haven't managed to pick up a wicket). Onward to Lord's and resumption of regular programming, KP playing an atrocious stroke, and so on...

Wouldn't say any of the possible outcomes are impossible.

Draw - Most likely
Eng Win - Possible
SA Win - Unlikely but not impossible.

Althrough with the weather, anything other than a draw is unlikely
Na not impossible, but extremely unlikely (even assuming no weather delays) given SA would have to accelerate an absurd amount in order to set a total that's 'safe'. And stuff like that just doesn't happen, because increasing the RR like that obviously makes it more likely they'll be bowled for a small total England can chase. It's just the advantage of being able to throw everything at the opposition knowing that, in reality, they won't be attempting to win the match.

Because the match was on even terms, yet one team has an advantage. I.e. despite going along easily atm, the pressure is on SA to draw this match not England.

So in effect the match isn't even then is it? It's not at all unfair it's just part of the game.

I doubt you were moaning about it being unfair on England that only Australia had a chance of winning at Adelaide the tour before last. So what's different here?

It was just a simple observation, don't know why you are getting your panties in a twist.

Hypothetical here, but if SA manage to bat the whole day without loosing more than 1 or 2 wickets, I think they'll feel rather good with themselves and go to Lords with the upper hand. It will give England a lot of concerns about their bowling attack.

(Personally being stupid and hoping we put the boot in and don't loose any wickets)

Will South Africa declare and bowl 30 overs at England where they need 200 runs?

Well maybe, 40 overs and 250.

CricInfo seem to have an off by one error.
