Aside from how many runs have been scored, SA must be worried by the amount of movement still in this wicket.

As for Hussey - one of the best innings you'll ever see.

McGrath clearly channelling Gillespie's memory during that session. Great character from him to stay with Hussey and not offer a ghost of a chance.

This will certainly influence his bowling.

Just looked it up. Australia's record 10th wicket stand is 127 (JM Taylor & AA Mailey vs England @ The SCG 24/25). Reckon it's a chance? :D

My thoughts exactly. South Africa out of the game. Kallis must be feeling terrible. He just dropped any chace SA had of winning.

Amazing how Australia always get out of bad situations. They seem to get a bit of luck and change games on their head.

That's a bit of an overreaction.

No it's not. It happens all the time is Australia's matches. Australia will make 400+ now, Hussey will probably make a double hundred.

Edit- I will actually go futher. IMO that drop was the series. (I am not saying South Africa would have definetly won the series if it had have been held but I am saying that as it didn't they now have no chance of winning the series)

Nothing wrong with Australia taking the chances that they get.

Does the other team deserve to win if it drops such elementary chances like Nel and Kallis have dropped?

Did I say that?

Can we quote you on that :p

It's certainly been amazing, but nothing new. It seems that the Australian tail has made huge runs on numerous occasions of late, and it always coincides with a middle order collapse.

Speaking of making people sick, how's this sycophantic syrupy drivel about the "great character" that was Kerry Packer. Understandable that he'd get a segment about WSC when he died, but the way that they're worshipping him because it's on channel 9 is horrific.

Anyway, one of the great hundreds from Hussey, this. Dismissing it as bad luck for South Africa is totally missing just how brilliant it's been.

It has been awesome but I am not amazed by it at all so I haven't really appreciated it I guess. It was always on the cards.

I wouldn't say he dropped any chance of winning the match. Break this partnership quickly after the break, put on 450-500 and then they're in the box seat. It has hindered their chances significantly but they're definitely not out of the game.

If they had have rolled them for 250, the confidence would have been high and they would probably play better cricket, instead they will be 400 behind and feeling like crap.

South Africa doesn't have the ability to make 500 against Australia IMO

It was 'always on the cards' that Hussey would score 80 runs batting with McGrath? Was it 'always on the cards' that Laxman would score 281, then?

You say that like it's a bad thing. Yes, it does happen quite a lot, but that's why Australia's been so unbeatable in the past years. Teams finally get on top, but then they can't drive the advantage home.

The channel 10 newsreader was crying during their tribute. Such an extremely popular man in many circles of life. I think Packer deserves all the plaudits he gets. A great Australian

I only really watch cricket in Aus and NZ so didn't see Laxmans 281 but yes I believed at the start of the day that Australia would get at least another 100 runs. I thought MacGill would have got a few more and didn't expect McGrath to last as long as he has but once Hussey got to 50 I knew he would make a 100.

From watching a lot of Australian cricket I have become used to them ending up with a respectable score no matter what. Someone will eventually step up and make the runs. It wasn't surprising in the slightest for me but it is incredibly frustrating to watch for a person who strongly dislikes the Australians dominance. (I only dislike England more, so I was looking forward to actually enjoying Australia smash the opposition for a change during the Ashes but they managed to all forget how to bat over there)
