The finger needs to be pointed at someone in the Aus team hierarchy - I assume they all discuss the desision before they toss.

In the space of ten tests, we've;

a. sent the oppo in on a road on a tiny ground having lost the world's best bowler just before play;

b. batted on a pitch when play was delayed due to rain; and

c. batted on a pitch wnen play was delayed due to the wicket being wet.

Ponting is a brilliant, brilliant batsman - probably the best in the world at present.

However, either his man management skills are totally crap or he's an absolute imbecile.

Either way, he's got no idea as a captain.
well this morning at least i dont think we can blame Ponting, SA bowled well

And what was the logic behind delaying the declaration? :sleep:
so that Hodge could get his double, & has i said before Ponting was in his right to believe with his 2 champions & a improved Lee he could get throught the brittle looking SA line-up. Anyway that in the past AUS have another problem currently...

Its hilarious that Martyn can't make this test team.

Maybe Marto should just randomly start rolling his arm over at domestic level and claim to be an allrounder. Its not like he'll bowl in the test matches much, Symo doesn't. :p
Actually he did bowl some overs in a recent FC match if I am not wrong.

The treatment to Martyn has been one of the most shocking selection decisions I have seen.

Why should an individual record be so important? You make decisions with team motives in mind. If its 1 or 2 overs waiting for an individual record is understandable but the amount of time Ponting delayed was ridiculous.

Pollock and Nel!

Despite a good start by Australia (on a difficult pitch from reports) RSA stuck onto the guns and have Australia at a poor position in this match.

Get a lead of 100 (at least) and build on the pressure in the second innings! I am loving this series.

has i said before he had 2 word-class bowlers in his ranks up againts a brittle SA batting line-up, so he was in his rights to belive he can bowl then out in 130 overs so giving Hodge time to get his double wasn't a problem. I really dont get all this critism Ponting is getting for this because all the commentators reckoned Australia had enough time but when the match was drawn everyone was down on Ponting, total nonsense.

SA simply batted extremely well & it showed that when a team has no hope of winning its thougher to get them out. Maybe Ponting missed a trick but people are being to critical on him now that the match was drawn, why didn't all these genius opinions come when he did make the declaration :dry:

It might have been something to do with comments such as: "I've read about Lara's innings. Their whole first innings might have been geared around one individual performance and they could have let a Test match slip because of it." and also: "It's hard to imagine an Australian player doing it, just because of the way we play our cricket. It's generally not the way we play."

I think that stopping before you shoot your self further in the foot that you're currently ramming down your throat would be a good plan of action.

Doesn't get any better the more you see it tho, does it?

Hussey looks like he's trusting McGrath a fair bit, let him face 4 balls that over.
