You're entitled to rant if your team doesn't have a go. I don't rant when they lose per se, but that's just ****. You expect it from England or India because they're inherently soft, or Pakistan because there might be a coin in it. But that was just piss poor

Edit: and just for Flem I should say we always expect it of NZ because they're just ****e.
 Burgey in fine form tonight. Give him a bowl tomorrow imo.

Haha. Mate, I'm not having a go. It's just the first time I've looked at CW for many months and the first page I look at has you having multiple goes. Good stuff. _b

Sadly, I did not get to watch most of the day as I was playing cricket this afternoon (defended 238 by 16 runs). But, I'll try to get in a session tomorrow.

I'll be rooting for the Saffas, I am a Kiwi, after all; but I hope Aus go better tomorrow, and that Kallis makes a ton.
Cheers. As I said if you get beat then fine, but have a crack ffs. Jeez it's just piss poor. Six or seven an over in a test match. Hang their heads.

Actually, just hang them. They don't deserve to live.

Cricket sucks sometimes. On top for all series but couldn't get the win, ahead in this Test until we **** it all up and lose.

Johnson. The new Johnson.

Which, appropriately enough is American slang for a giant ****.

Oz haven't batted again yet. Might look different game when they do.

Not sure I even semi-believe that, but just putting it out there.

Has the MCG turned into a raging greentop since I last looked, btw? Hastings's FC average takes some explaining if not.

Either that or Australia has collectively forgotten how to bat.

Actually, now I mention it...

Yeah I am a bit puzzled by his FC average as well - I can't reconcile his bowling action with his FC average.

He must be one of those canny bowlers at FC level?

In the Sheffield Shield, definitely. All the Shield pitches bar Adelaide are green seamers more often than not, and South Australia can't bat so there's nothing around to really test the bowlers. It's what I was saying before about having to go against everything I believe in and start considering one day domestic performances when picking the Test team because the pitches they play on for it are closer to what they'd find in Tests here than the Shield pitches.

If you're surprised by what Hastings actually bowls in comparison to his First Class record then you'd probably have a stroke watching James Faulkner bowl; he has over 100 FC wickets @ 22 bowling bowling like a post-injury James Franklin. In fact I'd probably still rate Franklin ahead of him as a bowler as he can at least swing the new rock sometimes; they're very similar currently in every other way.

The Hobart Sheffied Shield wicket has been absurd in the past three seasons or so and he plays for Tasmania so he's benefited from it hugely. Not to mention the diminishing standard of Shield batting to bowl against. The Sheffield Shield just isn't what is was as an indicator for Test success, which is why you get people like me - usually a huge advocate of performance over potential in selection - advocating someone like Hazelwood over these blokes. The bowling records of heaps of players are very flattering at the moment for a couple of reasons and if we want to be performance-based in selection we need to closely examine how these bowlers go in different situations, including the flatter pitches we see in the Ryobi Cup.

MCG hasn't been that bad, it's been tough on the first day and then quite often very flat for the remaining days, a few big scores have been made; and large chases on day 4 completed.

Hastings never looks threatening, no matter what level he's playing, but he's always managed enough to get wickets and give the captain some control. Obviously he didn't today; really, this was the risk that was taken by selecting an all new pace attack.

I'm so worried about how little I care about today tbh. By rights I should be pissed off as Burgey but I'm just... not. Maybe it's because of other **** in my life, but maybe it's a sign of something else...
