Na, Ravi got 170odd this week didn't he. Bound to get called up.

Gale possibly, having a decent season and is older than the kids and left handed?
Not sure about Gale but I'd like them to make that kind of selection a bit more often. They have a tendency to try a bit too hard to unearth the next Tendulkar imo. Just bring in a guy with a solid technique and runs on the board.

Hales bats at 3 doesn't he? And he's in form, last I heard. Depends how swayed the selectors are by Bopara's knock against Leicestershire.

As for Taylor, my impression is that he's struggled lately.
He hasn't been in awesome form but he did score 168* last week.

He's only averaging 31 in the Championship this season, but he's coming off 168* and 41 against Sri Lanka A which is probably of a higher standard than Division 2 where he's playing anyway, and he hit a double ton for the Lions earlier this season. First Class stats for this summer read as 1041 @ 52.

2nd brilliant days play. India still slightly ahead but they have to bat last so can't afford England to get away tomorrow.

Think we know both sides men of the series already. Dravid and Broad have been a class above everyone else on display so far.

Hales took 184 off Somerset with Kartick, Willoughby, Kirby et al from #3 at Trent Bridge a coupla weeks back, yes.

Get the feeling with Taylor being named captain of Lions he is ahead of Hales at present.

Still think we'll go for Bopara and have Morgan retain his place. Not what i'd do though.

Just needed to get to the close without losing anymore wickets, which they managed. Just hope they get a decent sunny day tomorrow like today and put on a good score. I wouldn't fancy batting on this pitch last, will depend on how long England manage to bat for.

incredible days play, absolutely furious with some of the Indian batsmen, Dravid showed why he's an all time great, Broad was fantastic with the second new ball and had earned that bit of luck. Would put England a bit ahead at this point, though they still have to put runs on the board, early wickets would put India right back in front.

I wouldn't fancy two debutantes playing in the same game, still wouldn't have Bopara mind.

Just got this off Cricinfo:
Just some late news on Trott, scans reveal no bone damage and he will be assessed in the morning. So perhaps he may bat after all.

Trott not batting would be a major, major blow. Looks like we'll struggle to make 300 without him - and that's what we need to get ahead - though we might be able to get a few out of this tail again.

God, what a match.

I dont like the idea of someone making their debut mid-series in a rubber of this significance. That basically leave the choice being Bopara or....Collingwood. We do have a lack of experienced batting depth

Rob Key only other option unless you get Ramps and his zimmerframe going.

Colly's retired from tests, hasn't he?

Shame about Tres, obvz. 1600+ runs at over 80. Sigh.

Stokes in seriously good nick just now; three FC tons in his last five games & he ticks the "5th bowler" box too.

The thought of bringing Bopara back AGAIN makes me mildly ill, whereas the prospect of James Taylor debuting is pretty exciting. That clouds my judgment on the subject somewhat.

Surely both Colly and Tres would answer an SOS? Tres would be the first to be called. They would both play, if asked, dont you think?

For me, this series isnt about the future, but about right now. I forgot about Trescothick. He would be the man

Has only just come back from injury tbh, before his game this week his last one was in May
