Ian Ward no doubt preparing himself to walk around the boundary to hear his name called out amidst some applause

Obviously the standard of batsmen available isn't the fault of our captain, but the whole psychology of the game was turned on its head by our brainless approach to India's 9th wicket partnership. Keep their heads and take the last two wickets quickly, and batting would have felt very different. As it is, the sheer stupidity of Root's approach took all the pressure off India's bowlers and put it firmly on the shoulders of England's batters. Nice one Joe.

England knew they’d get rolled over and so purposely gave free runs to India so they’d have to bat less time to save the match. Chess not checkers.

Haha, as demoralising as it was, I wasn't entirely dissapointed that India kept going as after a point, I didn't back us to chase a target but thought me might be able to bat (slightly under) 2 sessions to survive. Maybe we still will tbf, but I'm disappointed that our top order can't even hang around a bit.

Well, now that the platform has been laid by the top order Root, I guess it's time for the white ball specialists (Bairstow, Buttler, Moeen, Curran) Root to kick on and go for the chase.
butler, moeen and curran are still there, aren't they? this is a one day situation, the pitch isn't doing much and they still have a reasonable chance...
