From memory, his decent innings have been either alongside another tailender or as nightwatchman. He might just not know how to approach things when he's got to try to drag out the innings with a set batsman at the other end

I think it also made it less likely that they'd dismiss Anderson whilst there was still time for India to face a couple of overs. My guess is they'll pitch it up to him now.
