It's a Friday, so I doubt anyone would be available for a live sim. I'm only at home because I've got freshers' flu (as a third year). As such I will be posting the results of each session over the course of the evening. Stay tuned.

Bright start for Black at the Oval
Manuel Ramprakash Challenge Trophy - Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Black
Day 1 - Morning Session - CW Oval

Unsurprisingly Cricket Web Black got off to a positive start to the first-class final in front of a packed CW Oval. Dan Smith did his job by winning the toss and took the timeless factor of the match into consideration, deciding to bat first. Conditions were perfect for the choice, without even the hints of seam movement that are typical at the Oval. In that light the openers preyed on anything marginally loose and raced past the half-century mark with a bit of shine still on the ball. Smith struggled against Sean Bennett and his legspin, dropped by Nayak at midwicket in the process, but perished to David Kennett instead. The Black skipper looked shaky following the mental disintegration by Bennett, and pushed a half-volley into the hands of short cover.

In the following over Josh Ritchie freed his arms and whacked the ball over cover for a boundary and his half-century. He was unbeaten on 53 with Andrew Cloete at his side on 5.

Cricket Web Black 1st Innings 108-1 (31 overs)
JJ Ritchie 53*, DP Smith 47, AP Cloete 5*
DM Kennett 1-31

Cricket Web Black lead by 108 runs with 9 first innings wickets remaining.

No live sim on account of me being sick and in and out of consciousness.

Cloete powers Blacks onward
Manuel Ramprakash Challenge Trophy - Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Black
Day 1 - Afternoon Session - CW Oval

A pleasant half-century from Andrew Cloete halted any potential recovery from Cricket Web Red and placed Cricket Web Black into an excellent position. Thoguh the Reds started to claw back into the match, it was still a poor session on their part. They started it by dropping Ritchie - Gray the guilty party - and Mørk ranged to his right to drop a very difficult chance at the end of it. In between Ritchie was undone by a Martin West slower ball and caught at mid-off. He was followed by Alex Blackman, who clattered a four and a six before irresponsibly slogging Bennett to the safe hands of Kennett at long-off.

Cloete battled on and tucked Kennett around the corner for his 50 from 62 balls. By tea he had compiled 60 and Ash Chaulk walked in with 16 on the board.

Cricket Web Black 1st Innings 217-3 (31 overs)
JJ Ritchie 78, AP Cloete 60*, DP Smith 47, AP Chaulk 16*
SA Bennett 1-34

Cricket Web Black lead by 217 runs with 7 first innings wickets remaining.

Blacks dominant at stumps
Manuel Ramprakash Challenge Trophy - Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Black
Day 1 - Evening Session - CW Oval

Cometh the moment, cometh the man. Andrew Cloete underlined a brilliant performance by Cricket Web Black with a stunning innings of 116. Muhammad Amir, having struggled throughout the day, eventually picked him up to a tired shot, and stumps were called with the score on 343-5. The one true positive of the session for Cricket Web Red was the steady application of Martin West. Having received his first 'A' team call-up, the fast bowler consistently troubled the batsmen and was rewarded with the wicket of Ash Chaulk (56) during a particularly good spell. His captain denied him another wicket, however, dropping Cameron Burge when the batsman had just 3. The opener, batting in the middle order, finished the day on 20.

Cricket Web Black 1st Innings 343-5 (91.2 overs)
AP Cloete 116, JJ Ritchie 78, AP Chaulk 56, DP Smith 47, CR Burge 20*
SA Bennett 1-53

Cricket Web Black lead by 343 runs with 5 first innings wickets remaining.

Slippery fingers frustrate Reds
Manuel Ramprakash Challenge Trophy - Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Black
Day 2 - Morning Session - CW Oval

Dropped chances came back to haunt the Reds through another frustrating morning session. Cameron Burge was again put down and went on to score a fiery 83. The knock cost a mere 94 balls and included 7 fours. His was not a lone hand, though, as Blake Donald notched a half-century of his own. Cricket Web Black approached 500 and looked capable of much more with 4 wickets left to count. The Blacks piled on 143 runs in the session and the lone wicket fell to part-timer John Heads.

Cricket Web Black 1st Innings 486-6 (122 overs)

Centurion Donald applies the salt
Manuel Ramprakash Challenge Trophy - Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Black
Day 2 - Afternoon/Evening Sessions - CW Oval

Blake Donald lashed a timely first-class ton to set Cricket Web Black further into the lead against tired Cricket Web Red bowlers. The crowd was witness to great entertainment as the Blacks piled on 620. Donald struck 143 with 10 fours and 2 sixes and spearheaded the charge, adding 55 with Dave Richards (27) and then 45 with Zac Gelman (20), the number ten. The Red bowlers stuck to their task as well as they could but aside from Martin West there was no threat at all on the placid pitch.

The Blacks then forced home their advantage with the ball, amidst the evening gloom. Controversially the umpires allowed the Black seamers to operate in the increasing dark, and Matt Smith picked up Matt Luff (21) cheaply with an outswinger. The hopes of CW Red now rely heavily on captain Mørk and the top order.

Wickets tumble on third morning
Manuel Ramprakash Challenge Trophy - Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Black - Day 3 - Morning - CW Oval

Cricket Web Black enjoyed the morning of day three to the tune of 3 wickets and set Cricket Web Red firmly back and on the way toward following on. Matt Smith, Heath Davis and Blake Donald shared the wickets, and only David Kearsley remained of the experienced heads. First out was Jamee Gray when he failed to get on top of a hook shot and sent the ball upward for Dave Richards to take well-judged catch at midwicket. Next to duty, Rob Dauth looked good in the execution of a couple of off-drives, but when he attempted to go to the on-side, he miscued a slight change of pace and Davis took a sharp catch, low to his right. The Red captain was the last to fall in the session, caught at short leg after a gritty knock of 29.

Left to battle are David Kearsley and John Heads and the first-class top finishers face an uphill struggle to keep themselves in the game.

Cricket Web Black 1st Innings 620 all out (172.2 overs)
BC Donald 143, AP Cloete 116, CR Burge 83, JJ Ritchie 78, AP Chaulk 56, DP Smith 47
MP West 4-149, SA Bennett 2-83

Cricket Web Red 1st Innings 118-4 (36 overs)
DA Kearsley 30*, H Mørk 29, RJ Dauth 13, JJD Heads 8*

Cricket Web Red trail by 502 runs with 6 first innings wickets remaining.
