Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Colts
CW Oval
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
Cricket Web Colts, unperturbed by their one-day defeat last week, romped to a hugely impressive 8-wicket win over Cricket Web Red. It was the second comfortable win for the Colts over the Reds in the opening two weeks of the season, and another notable team effort.
The Reds chose to bat first but met a Colts bowling attack focused on their duties. The wickets were shared among the five bowlers, though Kyle Wright led the pack with 3. Wright accounted for the openers in his first spell, and CW Red never truly recovered from their poor start. Jamee Gray (30) threatened with David Kearsley (49), though neither could get on top the bowling as the ball nipped around a bit. By tea on day one the Reds were really at 144-8. There was some fight from the tail, but 204 all out represented a very poor showing after Mørk won the toss.
Mørk looked to his bowlers to hit back on the second morning, but he was at fault when he dropped Rai a ball into the day. Rai took the opportunity to free his arms and smacked the shine off the ball during his 43. His was an innings in sharp contrast to both Griffen (11) and Towns (34). The latter stayed firm for 180 balls and allowed Butler to settle in nicely. There were chances, showcasing the dismal catching of the Red outfit, but the Colts quickly asserted their dominance and went into the lead in the 69th over. Unsurprisingly Shan Jasotharan's contribution came at a fiery rate - 89 from 74 balls - though both he and Butler (85) missed out on hundreds.
Indeed there were no centurions in a large total of 392. But Will Kerr supplied the last of three half-centuries and remained unbeaten on 79 from 123 balls. The Red openers then came out for the second time in the match, their team trailing by 188 runs and due to face 2 overs before lunch. Under such immense pressure, Kenny Dobson drove at a wide Thomas delivery and edged into the lap of Kerr. CW Red went to lunch on 12-1.
The rest of the day remained firmly with the Reds. For the second successive match Mørk settled down for a long innings, while Rob Dauth played with increasing freedom on route to 113. At 179-2 at stumps the Reds walked off to appreciative applause, having restored some pride to the hearts of their supporters. On the fourth day Mørk and Gray pushed on to gritty half-centuries, allowing their team to reach lunch with a lead of 84 and 6 wickets intact. But whatever hopes there were of posting a sizable target were dismantled dramatically by Thomas with the new ball. The CW XI fast bowler tore through the bottom of half of the order in a spell of 5-21 after lunch. The Reds collapsed from 272-4 to 311 all out, surrendering for a lead of only 123.
The crowd hung around to see whether their celebrated pace attack could unnerve the Colts. Watt started well by dismissing Griffen for 6, but Dobson rounded off a miserable game by spilling a crucial chance off Rai. For the second time in the match Rai took his early luck to heart and played some stunning strokes in his innings. He was dropped again by Mørk and then got to fifty with two boundaries in his next 4 balls. The Reds pulled back a second wicket - Towns lbw 27 - and Rai and Butler opted to hurry the close with a positive 30-run stand. Rai was not out on 75, having faced 80 balls and struck 10 fours and a six.

Cricket Web Blue v Masters XI
PDV Dome
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
Solid application with the bat and some brilliance with the ball saw Cricket Web Blue prevent the Masters XI from living up to their name. For the second consecutive game the Masters XI were defeated by an innings, and at one point booed heavily by the crowd at the Dome.
The Blues chose to bat first on their home turf. The double centurion from the first match, Pete Young managed only 29 when he was the first out to Heath Streak. The opening stand had produced 61 runs and it was an endeavour in patience for the Masters as they tried to dislodge the 10 CW Blue wickets. The top eight batsmen reached double figures, and all but Crampton passed 20. It was Sean Fuller who played the standout knock, however. He batted for more than three sessions over the first couple of days and ground out 133 from 344 balls. His exercise in patience was supported by a more attacking Liam Camps jr., who chipped in with 82. Together the allrounders added 154 for the fifth wicket and anchored a large first innings total. Demeza declared shortly before stumps on day two - 457-9.
On day three conditions remained bright and conducive to batting, but the Masters XI were somehow overwhelmed by the Blue seam attack. Again the top order crumbled, this time to 79-7 at lunch. Geraint Jones atoned somewhat for his failures in the first match with a fighting 34. His contributing ushered the team past 100, but only to 120 when he was last out. Demeza had no hesitance in enforcing the follow-on, and quickly had two more wickets in the bag before tea.
The innings slumped to 84-4 at the dismissal of Inzamam-ul-Haq, lbw to Gooljar for 5, and it seemed another humiliating margin of defeat carded for the Masters XI. Brian Lara had elevated himself to the number three position and remained the only genuine hope of revival throughout his innings of 69. He was out missing a booming drive and bowled by Adam Collins. The medium pacer took 4 wickets and bowled 36 overs in the innings. Again the tail fought back at the side of Lance Klusener and respectability was only as far as 329 all out. The last wicket went to Camps, who grabbed a stump and joined rapturous celebrations after his lbw shout was upheld.

Cricket Web Green v Cricket Web Black
CWBCC Stadium
Scorecard
Ball by Ball
Cricket Web Black continued their dominant start to the season behind a Nick Borcich 11-wicket haul. Borcich bagged 7 in the first innings and was the primary undermining force after an excellent start of 248-3. Ironically it was the part-time efforts of Ashley Arnold that initiated the breakthrough. The impressive Rob Malone jr. The teenager dragged a wide delivery onto his middlestump with 71 to his name.
Anthony Lezama was much less flashy in compiling his half-century. He took 250 balls to score 57, but was second out, pushing forward to Neil Pickup and gloving to short leg. The third wicket stand of 41 between Nick Scott and Martyn Corrin took the innings close to stumps, but Borcich made his first breakthrough removing the latter less than 5 overs before the close. Borcich finished with a solitary wicket on day one, but righted the injustice with authority on the second day. He bowled a full length at high pace through a 6-wicket burst on the second morning. The Greens crumbled to 297, having been set at 209-2 at one stage. Borcich had figures of 7-85.
CW Black did not start as confidently as expected with the bat. After Dan Smith was dropped on 7, Arnold was bowled by Cunningham for 4. The Greens chipped away with fairly regular wickets to keep the game alive at 181-5. Smith was denied a ton by Ethan McNamara, out for 95, summoning Blake Donald to the crease with the innings shaking. The fightback was led by Ash Chaulk - maturing under increasingly responsibility - who scored a measured 114. In partnership with Donald he added 185 for the sixth wicket to snatch the initiative and confidence from the corner of the home team.
The Greens were further deflated after Donald was bowled for 84. Both Richards and Borcich played handy innings to extend the lead further. By the time Rose wrapped up the innings with his third wicket, CW Black had scored 469. CW Green, faced with deficit of 176, surrendered two cheap wickets to the new ball bowling of Borcich. The only effective defiance again came from the youngest of the Green lot. Malone notched his second half-century of the game, though he again fell short of a hundred. A topspinner from Pickup hit him adjacent to the stumps and triggered another collapse.
The last 8 wickets fell for 77 runs, shared between the spinners and Borcich. Each of Pickup and Richards took three, but Borcich wrapped a Man of the Match performance by increasing his match haul to 11. After the cheerful congratulations of their premiere fast bowler, the Blacks casually knocked off the required 32 runs within 9 overs.
