Batting XI vs Bowling XI
5-day Fixture
at the Fardin Qayyumi
As Dave Watt rocked back teammate Haakon Moerk's offstump, it was to seal one of the most comprehensive and humiliating results in the history of Cricket Web Charity Cricket. The Batting XI crumbled for 123 in their second innings, losing by a massive margin of an innings and 100 runs.
It was a totally dominant performance by Neil Pickup's men. Indeed, Pickup was the only bowler to go wicketless in the match, while only 4 bowlers failed to score more than 40 runs in a first innings total of 474 all out. While David Kennett was the anchor at the top of the order - 41 from 231 balls - it was Dave Richards and Mike Wilson who kept the crowd entertained with explosive strokeplay in commanding half-centuries.
Bryce Cunningham then stole the show, scoring 15 fours and 2 sixes in 114 from only 87 balls. Particularly entertaining was the 89th over of the innings. Cunningham and Borcich combined to take 25 runs off the bowling of Anthony Lezama - his last over of the game. It certainly did not help the cause of the batsmen that they dropped 10 catches in their endeavours in the field.
With a lead of 223 and more than 3 days left in the game, the Bowling XI looked to apply pressure on their more esteemed batting opponents. Blackman and Butler guided the Batting XI to 22-0 at stumps on day two.
On the third day the game swiftly swung decisively for the bowlers. At 42-7 the embarrassment was already established. And despite the efforts of Robbins, Lezama and Young down the order, it could not be prevented.
