Mark Robinson apologises for outburst

As a Saints fan it sorta pains me to post this, but our kiwi scrum-half has publicly apologised for verbally abusing Bath's black centre Andrew Higgins. He strongly denies any racial element to the abuse, but it was reported by 4 Bath fans & (perhaps tellingly) one Jimmy's fan; the ref actually held up the match to speak to both captains about the incident, which I think is unprecedented.

Stating the obvious to say racial abuse has no place in Rugby or anywhere; I wonder if any of our NZ posters would care to tell us what kinda rep Robinson had over there?

He's considered perfectly fine over here. I'm sure if he had used racial language back in NZ against some of the Pacific Island boys he would have got his head bashed in.

Fair call.

I struggle to believe any professional sportsman would be daft enough in this day & age, but one can't really legislate for the "moment of madness" scenarios a la Lehmann & Harrison.

I've aways found that if I'm angry with a black player on the field, usually pacific islander descent, that I call them "bro", with the NZ accent so it sounds like "Brew". Always feels good to yell, "F*ck of, Brew!"

Good player since he moved into centre. Shame he's chased the pound and is off to Bristol.

Played a bit of fullback and wing before that was it? And does he have a brother playing in Wales or something.

Don't think he has a brother over there - at least this other Brew you speak wasn't known here, if he was his brother.

He mainly played wing for Otago until last year against the Lions, where he was tried at centre and it worked a treat.

He had shown promise when he was on the wing for Taranaki, but he proved to be a bit of a carthorse as he got older.

Mapusua has played his last game anyway - Bruce has been in very good nick at 12 too, and it looks like that could be his spot. See we've signed the Taranaki midfielder Lifeimi Mafi to replace Mapusua. Could be a good signing.

Man has a point IMHO. It obviously didn't take Nostradamus to see that sigining a 30 year old with dodgy knees, zero Union experience & (seemingly) without a postion to play in was (at best) a gamble.

I see Lydon's getting the blame for it too. He seems to be the English Rugby scapegoat du jour; Josh Lewsey was having a whinge the other day as well. As I see it it's a silk purse/sow's ear job; we can change the management team all we want but the simple fact is that we no longer have enough genuinely world class players to consistently beat the best teams in the world. On our day we can match anyone, but we can't do it regularly enough to seriously challenge for the WC.

Did you see the leaked memo, Brumbles? Rather scathing of the whole English set-up.
No, that musta slid under my radar. Not a huge surprise tho, something has clearly been rotten in the state of Denmark for a long time. We've been, frankly, embarrassing as World Champions.

Some of the key links of that success then went and promptly retired. But still, it's been a poor few years, although last Autumn's tests weren't too bad.

True, or (in Hill's & Wilkinson's cases) got more-or-less permanently injured or (in Cohen's & Robinson's cases) lost form completely.

Even if we can't match the big boys tho we should still have enough about us to beat up on the Celtic nations. Instead an ageing & fairly ordinary Ireland has now beaten us three times on the bounce & we even had to suffer the ignimony of a loss to the sweaties this year.
