I agree with what Simon said about Bowen.

I can't understand why people always want him in rep sides, he is too small and is a liability under the high ball and not the greatest defensively. You can't pick a guy banking on him to produce one bit of magic in 80 minutes.

Adam Mogg to have a blinder and Queensland to level the series...

What about the days when he was "super-sub Bowen"? He used to really throw the cat amongst the pigeons with his extra pace when he came on in the last 20 minutes. I don't see why he couldn't still perform that role...

imo he wasn't even that effective in playing that role. Sure he scored a few tries and took 'that intercept' but he didn't carve them to pieces. I wouldn't object to having him on the bench but I don't feel like he is a neccessity for QLD. Why not select a real hooker to come off the bench with 20 to go and create havoc around the ruck?

That is so true. What people forget is when he came on in the last 20 minutes he was replacing Cameron Smith and usually played dummy half and upset our whole rythum (if we had any). Cameron Smith is an 80 minute player and should be there the whole time. I believe Berrigan is the perfect bench player Qld could ask for. He can pretty much fill any position in the back line and can play hooker or lock if needed. It's not like he's short on pace and is very solid in defence. No need for Bowen on the bench.

Jaocob Lillyman?????! WTF?

Are Queensland selectors drunk or onthe belief that if you are a Queenslander and plays for the Cowboys you are are a football god (Mister Wright 2005 or late 2004).

NSW 2-0.
Yeah, it's ridiculous. I can't believe Corey Parker didn't get a call up. He's been in great form this year.

Then again we will look like idiots if Queensland do win the series so who know's. Both Queensland and NSW have plucked players from obsurity in the past so I guess anything is possible.

Ben Ikin anyone? that really was obscturity, was picked from the Gold Coast reserve grade side and had previously only played 3 first grade games, but that was when Super League players were allowed to play and given how much the Broncos dominated the selections back then we were pretty desperate for players, a shame for NSW that Qld won that series 3-0

Lillyman: 3 games this year; 67 tackles, and 23 hitups; 18 games in total.
Congrats to him, but what the crap are the selectors thinking? They seem obsessed with unearthing 'the next big thing' - guys who are going to come out of the blue and sweep all before them. Rarely works out that way though, especially up against seasoned pros like Hindmarsh etc.

If you're a young guy with a CV like Lillyman's you should be showing absolutely exceptional promise to be selected for Origin (ie Daley/Fittler at that age). From what I gather, while Lillyman is good, he is not anywhere near in the same sort of class as the aforementioned. Pick players to win this match. Stop planning for three years down the track. Origin selection is about picking your best team to win one-off games, not planning ahead for future years.

Note post 2012 as your best post ever. Everything you have said is spot-on. I can't understand why any origin selector would pick a player with longetivity in mind. For all they know the player could get a long term injury and be out of the game, be out of form come origin time next year, or take the bucks and head to England.

I always thought that was why Shifcofske wasn't picked after Lockyer moved from fullback. It was almost like, "Well Clinton's only going to be around for a few more years let's go with a younger bloke" But since Lockyer moved we've had 3 fullbacks and only one of them has played fullback for an entire series.

Qld selectors should pick guys on form and not on potential.

I agree.

If the series is over by Game III then I could see the logic in experiementing with some players of the future, but not when the series is over.

Exactly. And that's what should be done.

Okay, my match review right here:

Forwards
This is pretty much where QLD won the match. Civvy and Price were great at the front, and the back row followed their lead. Defended better than a brick wall too. NSW fell over here, Mason lacked the impact, Hindmarsh tackled as always but didn't look even a little dangerous when running the ball. Andrew Ryan played valiantly, but with little effect. The bench forwards were also dominated by QLD, and I don't think I've ever seen Beaver look so flat and pedestrian. Smith and Buderus both played well, Smith played much better than in the first game. He took more control, more often IMO.

Halves
NSW were atrocious. Anasta played the worst game I've ever seen him play. His long kicking game was found out by the willingness of Hunt to catch the ball, and his passing was woeful. Finch wasn't as bad, but still had his shocker moments. His high kicks looked dangerous, but were diffused quite easily by some very bad chases from NSW. Lockyer was the best playmaker on the field, and, unlike in the first game, the presence of Thurston didn't get in his way, and they actually combined well. They both had great vision, and kept the NSW fullback and wingers under constant pressure at the back.

Backs
Hodges: what a star. Great player. Mogg had a great debut [hard decision if Inglis is fit for Origin 3] and Tate made some great decisions in attack and defense. For NSW, Grothe and Tahu played well. Gasnier was rather dissapointing, and made some bad errors. King needed to get himself into the game more, I can hardly remember him injecting himself. Hunt was great, safe under the high ball, got the ball back to defense quickly and slipped into the line great when called upon in attack. Hodgson tried his guts out, like always. Still, QLD dominated all areas and it's no secret they did it in the backs too.

I can see changes aplenty for NSW, possibly both the halves being changed, and maybe even some of the forwards. QLD will stay almost unchanged for Melbourne, and I fully expect them to get up. They were so awesome tonight, unbelieveable. NSW should be ashamed, they played some horrible footy. Well done QLD.

Finch showed his true colours. Absolute nuffy.

Told ya Mogg would have a blinder. Great result. Awesome stuff. NSW can **** off back to Sydney...

I thought Anasta was 10 times worse than Finch. If it's any consolation to all of you, you can be sure NSW will likely play neither in the 3rd game and the Roosters will probably finish 3rd from bottom. Sucks to be me, though.
