I remember when he was commentating on the 2007 draft or something like that, and when Chris Benoit was drafted to ECW he just blurted out "F***!" live on air, so funny, think the video is still on youtube somewhere.

Wish I had managed to get to a house show during the "Smackdown 6" era, bet it would have been off the charts.

I know I keep going on about it, but nothing beats the Smackdown 6 era. Everything from Brock Lesnar's win over The Rock at Summerslam onwards was ****ing amazing, especially up to WMXIX.

In some cases perhaps, a lot of the storylines that make it into games are even more farcical than the ones that happen in real life though tbh.

Like the undertaker storylines in the smackdown vs raw games.

That's exactly the reason why I hate these type of squashes. You make the guy who loses look horrible but at the same time don't go anywhere near putting the other guy over because no-one will remember or take the match seriously.

Noteable exception being Diesel trashing Bob Backlund in 8 seconds, that still remains one of my favourite wrestling moments of all time

A member of the WWE SmackDown creative team pitched an angle for the Dolph Ziggler and Maria storyline which would have had Ziggler blackmailing Maria with video footage. It would have been heavily implied that the footage was a *** tape, although they never would have come right out and said it.

The proposed angle called for Ziggler threatening that he would show it to her family and friends, but not any of the fans. The angle was apparently rejected.

Haha think this could have actually been quite funny tbh.

Yeah, sounds like Shaq was the best thing about RAW this week, not seen it mind. Cena vs Orton for Summerslam doesn't exactly thrill me either.

Better than Orton V triple H mind you. Though does this mean that orton and Triple H will continue to feud? Presumed Summerslam would see the big blowoff match. My guess is that they will have one at the Hell in a Cell PPV instead.

Watched the Shaq edition of Raw. Random thoughts:

- Shaq is a don. Did everything right, was funny, entertaining, worked the crowd and most importantly did a good job putting people over. Rest of the show reminded me why I stopped watching WWE tbh. Did everything they could've hoped for from him.

- The commentary is an utter utter joke. Where the **** is JR? Their job is to make what we see in the ring seem important and these guys showed no intentions of doing anything like that and in the case of guys like Kendrick(last year he was the new HBK apparently) they did a great job of burying him.

-Massive lol at the booking for the Beat the Clock. The two young studs with Main Event potential (Swagger and MVP) both made to look inadequate and not relevant, while Cena is still being pushed to the moon and Trips needs a guy to take him out with a weapon before the match, interference during the match and to miss a pinfal by a second just to make it seem acceptable that he didn't win? Michael Cole's "one second on the clock can he get the pin!" should be youtubed and played on repeat over and over again.

-Next week, Triple H in the ring with two up and coming guys. Looking forward to that. Ah well, at least you guys can look forward to more of the same guys in the Main Event for the next few months. They're protecting the people who don't need it and doing their best to damage the guys who could carry the torch. If any of MVP, Swagger, Morrison, Kingston do get hugely over it will have to be in spite of the E's booking rather than because of it.

At least Jeremy Piven is going to host the show next week. Guy is bloody hilarious on Entourage and in interviews. Wonder how long they can rely on the celebrity hosts though.

RE the bolded sections. JR is on Smackdown, and yeah, Raw is pretty poor but I reckon you would still enjoy Smackdown. it is really, really strong of late, less so since Edge went off, but basically since Mania Smackdown has been 9 or 10 out of 10 every week, whereas raw has been 4 or 5....

The celebrity host thing will run for a while, but I don't think it has that much longevity personally. Problem with it is, pretty much all they can do with it is face characters, and authority figures are always much better as heels imo. All they can do with the guest hosts is pretty much....

1) Guest host shows up, cuts promo.
2) Interupted by ****y Heel who shoots on the host.
3) Host says "tonight I'm calling the shots", and books said heel in a match they really don't want.
4) Heel complains and looks shocked.
5) Heels jobs match, guest host celebrates in ring with HHH/Cena.

Haha, yeah, so true. Although they are hardly 'shooting' on the hosts, it's not like they don't know what they are going to say. Shoots never happen in WWE anymore as far as I can tell. Can't remember the last one. There were people in the IWC saying "whoa Punk's promo to Jeff was a shoot", well no, not really, he just used real life stuff in a promo.

Just semantics though I guess.

Well, that'd explain why The Brian Kendrick was being jobbed out. Here's to a long and successful stint in TNA in the near future.

In other news, Jericho-Morrison tomorrow. Obviously it's already been filmed, haven't read any spoilers but could well be a good one.

I was really disappointed to see Brian Kendrick released. He's a great talent and is an exceptional in ring performer. At the start of his current heel run I thought he showed great character and real potential. But it was clear that he was never a real favourite with Vince McMahon and I guess we could see the release coming.

I see Brian Kendrick having a great future in either ROH, TNA or Japan. He'd be ideally suited to ROH and they are experiencing significant growth thanks to their new television deal in the United States. TNA is another viable option as he'd be a good fit for the X Division or as a tag team wrestler. Japan's a good option too as his style would be well suited to the Japanese market and he's already quite popular over there as he has wrestled in Japan before.

It'll be interesting to see whether TNA hires him or not. If they do we may see the likes of Bobby Lashley, Ken Anderson, Umaga and Brian Kendrick all part of the TNA roster by the end of this year.

The latest victim of WWE's dreaded "future endeavors" announcement was The Brian Kendrick, and a PWInsider report sheds the first bit of light on the matter.

According to the report, Kendrick's release can largely be attributed to his backstage attitude and motivation as a performer. The internal feeling was that while Kendrick did what he was told, he carried a negative attitude and gave the impression that he did not deeply care about being there. WWE thus saw little potential for Kendrick to breakout as a valuable member of the roster and opted to sever its ties with the wrestler.

It remains to be seen if Kendrick's release is a compounded consequence of his behavior or if a specific incident brought WWE officials' concerns to a boil.

Sources are also quick to mention reports that Kendrick was one of WWE's most frequently-fined Superstars for marijuana use, although it is unclear if that played any role in his release--under the Wellness Policy, there is no punishment, beyond the fine, for using the drug.

Well that's the official story anyway.

Smackdown was an incredible show this week. Jeff Hardy and John Morrison tore the house down with a great match. My favourite moment was the CM Punk attack on Jeff Hardy.

CM Punk grabs the microphone and goes "You know Jeff, honestly the last few weeks..." and then right out of nowhere just slams the microphone in his face and delivers a huge beatdown to Jeff Hardy.

That segment was just so incredibly well done and CM Punk pulled it off so well. Quite possibly the best 'heel' segment since the Edge and Mick Foley segment last year. CM Punk's such an awesome heel and I have a feeling he's going to take over from Edge and Chris Jericho as the number one heel in the WWE.

It was great television and you have to watch Smackdown this week just in case you missed it.

Don't see how he'd have much of a future in TNA. People can be as critical of the WWE as they want, but TNA treat new talent a hell of a lot worse unless they are a "name".

I'm not overly disappointed to see him go. He isn't big enough/charismatic enough to be anything more than a bit player on Raw or SmackDown, and ECW is stacked enough as it is. Full credit to him for reinventing himself when he looked set to go down the same path as Paul London, but he'll suit ROH more when he can go against like sized guys and smoke all the dope he wants.

I think he could have been a useful part of any roster and could have helped bolster the midcard with various feuds and good matches, he would have never made it much further than that but in terms of in ring entertainment the E will be much poorer without him imo.

In a lot of ways having a strong mid-upper mid card is every bit as important as having main eventers. They can give you quality minutes on both shows and if kept relevant can be good stepping stones for genuine ME talent to credibly go over.

Really shouldn't be losing too many guys like that, it seems they won't have many soon either, what with anyone who ever starts to look good being made to job to someone or other.
