You know how it appeared during the Ashes that MMarsh had actually discovered a forward defence?

Yeah, funny times those were.

I still recall the days when we were being told by some that MMarsh could bat top 4. And then people genuinely thought he turned a corner in the Ashes. This is only one of the many instances where you guys were wrong and I'm afraid the rest of CW can no longer trust your judgement.

It shows how utterly appalling England's bowling was.
And how utterly lifeless those pitches were. Particularly the MCG but all of them were bad bar Adelaide. It's pretty awful that the Adelaide oval has become the most bowler friendly wicket in the country.

Definitely more the conditions/pitches than England's attack imo. I seriously doubt Marsh could score a fifty let alone a ton in England

So Australia's next International is against the UAE. A T20I

I would pick the following lineup:

1 A Finch
2 D Short
3 C Lynn
4 B McDermott
5 G Maxwell
6 A Carey
7 A Agar
8 N Coulter-Nile
9 A Zampa
10 A Tye
11 B Stanlake

Starc and Lyon can be rested for workload and Marsh can miss out due to not enough time at the crease.

That shot he played yesterday was appalling

Good ball but the gap between bat & pad was massive plus he barely got forward

The silver lining of Warner/Smith being banned is that it forces Australia to find new batsmen capable of playing test cricket so that when they return, we have a stronger lineup which doesn't rely on them so heavily. ...
The **** smeared inches thick over the silver lining is that all those batsmen batted like they were still relying on Smith and Warner to bail them out. Did anyone tell them they are not playing?

Y’know, removing the two top players in just about any line-up will cripple them. This doesn’t mean we can’t all have a laugh at how comical some of the cricket is and the degree of fail will vary a bit by team. But there’s no deeper selection insight to be gained from it.

Can we consider dropping one last Marsh at least. Binga saying give both two tests this summer is like saying you don't wanna hurt ones feelings so don't drop either

I mean Maxwell had a far better set of Asian tests last year and he was thrown to the wolves for summer. Itd be bullshit if the Marshes failures were ignored

The treatment of Maxwell continues a long and storied tradition of treating Victorian bats appallingly. Long may it continue.

On MMarsh, selectors have invested in him. And given that when the WA selectors did the same and there were some signs of it paying off plus Ashes ton shows it’s not totally without basis to give him some time. But he’s already 30-odd Tests in so some payback better be imminent. I mean, Steve Waugh infamously took almost 30 Tests for his first Test ton and was ropey for a while after that but he turned into one of the best bats of his era so.....

SMarsh shouldn’t have even toured, tbh.

Considering the state of Australian cricket at the moment foxtell is ironically on the mark... 'it's just not cricket.. It's every Australian game, live, this summer'

Bad investments should be gotta rid of to minimise losses.

I hate the 'but Steve Waugh' argument with Marsh. Sure he got a lot of rope but Waugh pulled his weight way more than Marsh before getting his first ton, scoring seven fifties to two. And also actually was dropped afterwards, twice in '90-'91.

The Adelaide pitch has extra grass left on it still, as well as being played under lights. Both of which are things that should be implemented more and more as we go along. Probably sooner rather than later.

Damn I remember reading Waughs bowling kept him in the side back then. Sounds like he wasn't that useful with the red ball

That’s right. But he was useful in tests and showed character with his bowling on occasion like bouncing Viv. But he was one of the first to use the slower ball in Odis. At the stage in their careers when they are trying to establish themselves as batsmen both Waugh and Marsh needed and need to contribute with the ball. Waugh did and for a long while and it became less important as he started to make runs. Whereas Marsh’s bowling has dropped right off without establishing his place as a bat. So basically Marsh isn’t contributing anything.

Like I said, MMarsh better pay off soon.

That said, only need to watch the way Marsh goes about his work to see he oozes talent and last year, some faith was rewarded at state and international level. And Steve Waugh needed a lot more faith than just his first couple of years. That doesn’t mean pick for every Test and back at all costs, just as it didn’t for Waugh,

Marsh will likely get a spell playing for WA, probably soon. But he will, not without reason, be there or thereabouts where selection is concerned. Guys with his skills don’t come around very often.
