*Official* Pakistan vs Australia in the UAE 2018

Looking over the series stats, the top 9 run scorers were Khawaja, Finch and 7 Pakistanis. I'm not sure I've seen something like that outside a good minnow bashing.

Holland was really uninspiring, Starc unlucky and injured. Shah overrated but Abbas immense. Asif was great too. Lyon was his usual very good but not great self.

**** it’s a batsman’s game. How doesn’t Abbas get motm taking ten fer?

Edit: must have been some other award the bloke got for two 50s

No hundreds this game either.

More than the result I think this test will be more remembered for its meme- worthy run outs than anything else. We got two all time great bad run outs.

Lyon did an excellent job and I feel Yasir did well enough too seeing he just come off a long injury layoff. Abbas was immense of course. Both pitches were excellent batting decks.

Realistically I was expecting 2-0, and even though we survived the first Test by the skin of our teethes, 1-0 is still better than that.

Shame we capitulated so hard in the second Test. But given there's like 5 Test standard players in the side (and that's being generous), not sure we could've expected much better.

Series ratings:

Khawaja 9 - his first Test is one of the best displays of batting I've seen, pretty much single-handedly saved the Test. But given how his second Test went, it seems like Australia's under a form of bad karma.
Finch 6.5 - made plenty of starts but failed to kick on with them. Seems more like middle order material at Test level, but at least did something compared to the rest of the lineup.
S Marsh 0 - never play for Australia again.
M Marsh 1.5 - not quite as bad as Shaun, but still ****. Shouldn't play Tests for Australia for a long time.
Head 5 - it felt like he was going to do the typical Head thing of failing first innings before making a great but futile knock in the second innings in the first Test. Obviously his knock wasn't futile, but still I remain unconvinced about his long-term potential.
Labuschagne 5 - Australia's second best bowler. Looked a genuine threat whenever he bowled, which means he'll be in the minds of the selectors any time they encounter spinning conditions. But he's in the side to bat, and he didn't quite look up to it throughout the series.
Paine 5 - kept OK, but apart from his heroics at Dubai contributed little with the bat. Captaincy didn't feel right either.
Starc 4 - looked well and truly off colour.
Siddle 5 - one strong spell in the first innings, but downhill from then on. His bowling on the second session of the first day here pretty much single-handedly gave the advantage back to Pakistan. Shouldn't play again.
Lyon 6 - pick of the bowlers but still seemed underpar compared to his tours of Bangladesh and India. Were different conditions tbf.
Holland 3 - doesn't look up to it, Labuschagne was a more dangerous bowler. Just seemed too slow and couldn't get a really good length to make up for it.

Imam-ul-Haq 8 - batted very well in the first Test. Shame about the injury.
Mohammad Hafeez 7 - one great knock, diminishing returns otherwise.
Fakhar Zaman 9 - was even better than ul-Haq in this Test. Immense first innings knock to get Pakistan out of an awful situation.
Azhar Ali 2 - one of only two players Australia really got on top of. Only one innings of note and ruined that with the worst run-out I've ever seen.
Haris Sohail 7 - see Hafeez.
Asad Shafiq 7 - another Pakistani bat who was great in the first innings at Dubai but did little otherwise.
Babar Azam 5 - only knock of significance was basically downhill skiing.
Sarfraz Ahmed 8.5 - amazing Test with the bat here, and kept pretty well throughout.
Bilal Asif 9 - huge find. Played a huge role in sparking the collapse of Australia at Dubai and bowled well otherwise throughout.
Wahab Riaz 2 - not good. Did not look threatening at all.
Yasir Shah 4 - below par. Still bowled some threatening balls but seemed looser than usual and Australia seemed to pick him well. If only we could say the same about their other bowlers....
Mohammad Abbas 10 - masterclass. His bowling MO was so simple, yet could do no wrong. Absolute freak, especially given these were not seam friendly conditions.
Mir Hamza 4 - didn't really convince.

It’s only a small thing, but credit to Rameez Raja there for summing up in English his interview with Sarfraz at the preso.

Nice to see Abbas get his ten for.... well done to Pakistan, real thumping in the end. Particular when you consider this game started with Pakistan at 5-57 and Mickey furiously writing in his notebook.

Abbas and Ali are going to be a handful for the next few years. Hope they add Junaid to the mix and it's off to the races.

I really do hope we drain the swamp. Its not good that I should hate two blokes as much as that. Is it it too much to ask that CA have a little foresight when making decisions? We have trouble making runs. Didn't it occur to anyone this would happen when you ban your 2 best out of 3 batsmen? I mean guys - how would it be if someone like Khawaja gets injured? Could happen you know. I'm just so sick of it. Stupid bans, the 30 runs stat - which they misunderstood anyway. The Marshes again and again and again. The high performance unit - ****ing hell. The excuses not to pick certain players, Renshaw or no explanations for others, Maxwell, just because they come from the wrong state or someone's got a grudge. They've reduced us to minnow status and they get even more pig headed they know what they're doing.

Congratulations Pakistan. hardly anyone missed out. Also thanks for the run out. Congratulations to India too for winning the series this summer.

A batsman shouldn't be picked for useful part time bowling if they can't bat.
How very dare you, he has already got a better score in each innings of his career so far, he is set to be the leading man at beating his previous test best if they give him a run.

Ok maybe not but he has been a success as far as the selections on this tour have gone and will be unlucky to not get picked again.

A India-Pakistan test series in the subcontinent would be so good now wouldn't it? :(
It would. Both batting lineups can definitely be got at. Tests would be a good contest right now.

We had a brief glut of India-Pakistan series in the 2000s, shame almost all the matches were on flat pitches.
