Yep that's how everyone should be seeing him. If Marsh is not in the top 6 batsmen in the country he shouldn't be in the side.

There were signs last summer that he was good enough with the bat so let's home he can make some first innings runs this test.
Yeah he needs big runs here to stay in the side.

With that said, not convinced Labuschagne is the better bat at this point, and his bowling I'm not convinced will be that effective in Australia.

Shaun Marsh has about 320 runs in his last 19 away Test innings; gone from a specialist in overseas conditions to a home-track bully.

I suspect Shaun Marsh will either make a century or less than ten. It's almost Marcus North all over again
If his Test career ends after his match (presumably with another failure), his Test batting average will almost be a carbon copy. Would have to go back to Greg Blewett to find an Oz batsman who's played as many Tests as Marsh has for a poorer average.

Surely the next time Marsh is dropped it has to be for good. The bloke is 35 now. Yes, he was good last summer but he's had more chances than any player in loving memory and averages a meagre 36 in test match cricket.

In fact the selectors should implement a new selection policy - if you have played a minimum of 20 tests you get dropped if your average is less than your age +10.

Pick a 25 year old averaging 35 perhaps but don't pick a 35 year olds averaging 36.

Especially given you're assuming Smith and Warner will be back by that point.

This Top 6 seems good to me:

Warner
Renshaw
Khawaja
Smith
Finch
Maxwell

With Head and maybe Mitch Marsh in reserve. Labuschange in the right conditions too and Pucovski waiting in the wings.

International Captain
Still think the last test was a reprieve instead of a justification for Langer. He made selection blunders and was saved by Usman and Paine. He should admit there were problems with the location of the Marshes in their batting positions. One more chance for Shaun to save his miserable career. Prick will probably take it.

Replace Maxwell with Head or the other Marsh, the bloke is in such purgatory that he can't be saved.

I feel like +10 might be a bit too high in certain circumstances - perhaps 7/8 might be a better alternative, but not a terrible rule overall.

Yeah, I think I'm being too generous on Maxwell. Still say he's in the Best 6 bats nationwide though.
Oh absolutely no doubt. It's just a flying shame everyone barring a few people with the power to actually give him his rewards in this country know it.

Yeah obviously it's flawed since it could be that a player was picked too young, has come good but is disqualified from test selection.

Do it with age < first class average +7. Which still excludes Shaun Marsh.

Actually given his age I'd rather move Warner down the order.

Renshaw
Khawaja
Smith
Finch
Warner
M Marsh
Paine

Finch has shown adaptability. I really like Khawaja opening and think he'd form a good long term partnership with Renshaw at the top.

I'm gambling on M Marsh turning out to not become a complete spud.
