*Official* Pakistan tour of Ireland, England and Scotland 2018

International Coach
Azhar Ali has struggled with the responsibility of being the senior most batsman a bit like Matthews.
England has got the pitch right for Pakistan in this game flat pitch with som pace and bounce sort of a track which you usually see in Australia these days and hence Pakistan struggle over there

Anderson being average in favourable conditions yet bowled 7 straight. Man up root.
Just like his predecessor, who regularly bowled these two for the first hour no matter what.

TMS agreeing with you about bowling Curran ahead of Woakes, btw.

EDIT
And you're both right judging by the crap that Woakes has served up so far.

Am I the only ine who thinks bowling A&B is the right thing to do, no matter what?
They can be bowled, yes, but there's no sense in giving someone who isn't bowling well an extended spell just because they've bowled well in the past.

That said, not a great start by Woakes.

Seeing that Woakes bowls first change; I have to admit that there's a strong case for the 'bowling A&B, no matter what' school of captaincy:

Real poor start from Woakes and it won't be long now until it's him and the debutant.

Root really had to manage them better to have at least some sort of consistent threat beyond drinks

You're jumping a gun there a little bit. Just his 5th Test since MisYou Granted he doesn't have a hundred yet but has a couple of 50s. A few old technical issues have crept in his game now - head falling over against the incoming delivery..got out like that in the 1st two tests in England 2016 but then came back with a hundred at Edgbaston, having rectified it and whipping those deliveries through mid wicket. Had a solid run for a year but the gap after the October tests last year hurt his form a little. Struggled against Southee in New Zealand earlier this year against the same sort of delivery.

Azhar
Haris
Shafiq

at 1-4 is still the right vital cog for this team

Bring in a new player over tried and tested player with a bad season - get criticized

No winning as an England selector
That's any selector though. If Rahane was picked in SA and failed, you guys would have gone after them for sticking with an out of form batsman

I think we could all name bowlers that would be having a field day in these conditions. Two wickets at this stage is an acceptable position for Pakistan.

Doubt that the Curran brothers play more than 10 tests between them

Short medium pacers are hardly the most threatening bowlers to face and they are incredibly lucky to have a test debut each

What's with Curran's selection? Did they just want a left-armer or another Southern African? Reminds me of James Franklin after he forgot how to bowl

Just realized that this Curran is a different Curran to the Curran who made his debut in the Ashes.
