'Official' Pakistan in West Indies

Wahab Riaz causing plenty of problems. A wicket, a big shout for caught behind, a difficult chance goes down and he hurts Simmons in three overs since lunch.

Edit: Simmons retired hurt. Riaz getting rid of them somehow or other, I guess.

Yes, I thought the caught behind that they decided not to review, came off the handle or the glove, the ball didn't seem to come close to the thigh pads.

Yes I agree, thought it came off the glove myself, not sure there would necessarily have been enough conclusive evidence to overrule the on-field umpire though. But that was my thinking on the appeal too.

Not a very good first day wicket this at all. There's been a number of deliveries keeping very low, you don't mind that towards the end of the fourth day and on the fifth, but this has happened during the morning and afternoon session on day one!

A pitch you're never in on I guess. WI have scrapped hard, the Sarwan dismissal that was referred, I could see nothing that suggested he'd nicked it, so there must have been a conclusive noise off the stump mic.

Chanderpaul typically working through the problems, not in a pretty fashion, but an effective one nonetheless.

Pakistan have bowled well, Riaz has added some fire to the attack, while the spinners have been bang on target. Can WI be more proactive against the slower bowlers rather than allowing them to settle in ? Difficult, but they may have to re-think their strategy at tea.

So difficult for WI batsmen here, the ball's turning appreciably at times, the bounce is inconsistent, and they cannot read Saeed Ajmal at all. Poor Brendan Nash did not have a clue which way he was turning it, and it looks unlikely Carlton Baugh is going to read him too much better, so it's very difficult for them to move down the pitch if they're unsure which way it's going to go.

Woodster, do you think that the Pakistani batsmen will fare any better?
I think they probably will mate, because WI don't have the options in their attack that Pakistan do on this pitch. The selection of two very good spinners, in Rehman and Ajmal, with Hafeez, has made things very difficult for a side that consistently struggles against spin, even in their own conditions.

I think Bishoo looks a talent, but he is on debut and it is a lot to expect him to run through the Pakistan side on his own. Sadly the selection of Sammy, even Rampaul to a degree, does not fill me with the greatest of confidence for WI to generate a lead after each sides respective first innings.

Watching Baugh v Ajmal is like watching a man with a massively heavy hammer trying to play whack-a-mole.

Edit: and there he goes. Stone dead.

I wonder how many variations Bishoo has in his armory. Taking wickets on this pitch seems to be about keeping the batsmen guessing. I've never seen Bishoo bowl a properly lengthy spell yet.

Interesting referral too. Being struck low on the pad in front of middle stump to a ball pitching on middle and going on to hit middle, is now worthy of a referral ??

Thanks mate. You guys must be delighted how this Test is going so far. and how well the Pakistan attack has bowled ?
yep. Test going well so far but I would like Misbah to give more overs to Riaz. Wahab Riaz is my favorite Pakistan player these days.

After watching Pakistani bowlers sell their honour for some cash, and thus denying me the possibility of seeing Aamir at his peak, my new wish is now to see Roach, Edwards and Taylor bowl together for the West Indies. Will the West Indies cricket board grant me that wish or am I being too hopeful?

Far too hopeful! I too would love to see those operate in the same WI XI, yet even if the WICB do grant you that wish, it's unlikely those players individual fitness will allow the dream to happen!
