Its the modern game, the quicks today are not skillful enough to bowl with the new ball so it is given to the spinners to rough up the seam as quickly and cheaply as possible.

Sure, but Riaz is for the most part a liability with the new ball. Gul isn't much better.

Turgid stuff and this is probably the most expansive partnership we'll see... Pleased enough that we're not three down by lunch or anything though, good effort from Bravo and Simmons.

Fair enough, but pitches which benefit fast (new ball) bowling are become rarer and rarer, which is part of my overall argument. I definitely believe this to be a trend.

Not exciting cricket, but I'm pleased we're only one down at lunch, regardless of how many runs are on the board. This pitch has inconsistent bounce, and Simmons twice had to dig out balls that kept low. It's not going to be easy scoring runs on this pitch.
Except if Sammy comes on to bowl, in which case the Pakistani batsmen will hit boundaries at will!
