***Official*** Pakistan in West Indies 2017

Man Pakistan are good against Spin.
The older generation for the most part are I agree. I dunno about the newer brigade yet though, Azhar can be reckless if he gets bogged down by a spinner and I have not seen Babar Azam against top class spin yet..

Its a hollow series win this for Pakistan against the west Indies reserves. I dunno who is good enough to partner Azhar in England who to be fair isn't exactly a world beater in this format. Its not Shezhad as those two at the top chasing anything big would be absurd, Kamran has some value in t20 but not fifty overs. Not convinced about the pacers either.

Is Azhar in the ODI team still? Is he injured or something? Agree with you though, it's only the older generation guys that are so dominant. Azam gets bogged down against spin, wasn't able to rotate strike from what I've seen. Hafeez and Malik on the other hand have been imperious. Even when Nurse was turning it square, they were unperturbed. It's only a chase of 230 but even then Malik has looked so in control against spin like no one I've seen recently. There's not many exceptional players of spin right now in world cricket, they are a dying breed. With Younis and Misbah about to retire maybe Pakistan should request Malik to return to the test team. Could be handy in the sub-continent.

Yes I think there has been a slight decline in spin bullies these days sadly.

India looking at its current generation don't have the spin bullies of the old days either. Before someone points out the obvious, I am aware the SC still produce better players of spin than the likes of England and Australia but as we have seen over last few years the gap is not as crazy as it once was. An obvious example would be Rahane, Azhar and how a mediocre spinner like Ali dominated India when they toured a few years ago.

Don't think Malik would return, he is one of the few Pakistani players who can make serious money on the franchise circuit and I suspect he is probably wary about bowling lengthy spells (long sleeves!) which he would have to on the roads of the UAE.

well done Malik. one of those players who seemed to always get 15 ball duck against us when i was a kid and i didnt rate him at all

but in the last few years most times ive watched him bat he's proven to be very skillful

First Test starts in just under 1 week.

Will Shadab Khan debut or with Pakistan go with only Yasir? Asghar is in the squad too but he would appear the most unlikely. Is Abbas a chance of sharing the new ball with Amir? He had an amazing statistical season with the Khan Research Laboratories.

I'm surprised they haven't brought Hafeez back into the Test squad now that he can bowl again, especially since he scored some (albeit slightly slow) runs and bowled really well in the ODI series.

Yep, same really. Although it wouldn't really surprise me to see him back next series as captain as the side will be without the experienced Misbah and Younus.

Why not play Yasir, Khan and Asghar?

Pacers are not exactly world beaters.

Hafeez was captain before and was toss in the role, no need for him playing test cricket in 2017.

3 spinners seems slightly excessive but I do agree that more than 1 (so 2) would be ideal.

So yesterday was Day 1 of the tour match against a strong WICB Presidents XI, which was basically an A team. The WICB XI batted first and are 311/5.

I watched most of the days play as it was streamed live. Amir bowled really well, he got the ball to swing and bowled some nice short balls early on too. Hasan Ali got the new ball to swing and was steady when the ball got old but got caned a bit early on, along with everyone else, by Shimron Hetmeyer, who played an outstanding innings. It was like a blast from the past, watching a West Indian number 3 come in and completely dominate a world class bowling attack. If he can get past his current habit of throwing it away after getting a half century then he will be ready for the big time and not before time too, I'm fed up of watching young West Indians block dot ball after dot ball. We need some stroke makers to complement the likes of Braithwaite and Shai Hope.

Vishal Singh has put his hand up yet again with 80 not out. He had a brilliant tour of Sri Lanka and has scored bucket loads of runs every time he has faced international opposition. I would select him for the 1st test. I'm looking forward to seeing how Kemar Roach bowls, word is his pace has upped slightly and he looks much better so lets see if that translates into wickets.

Pakistans attack looked a bit pedestrian without Wahab but it's a flat pitch in fairness. Yasir Shah wasn't at his best and was taken to task by Hetmeyer, but showed his class to dismis him with a perfectly pitched googly to take the edge. I thought Ashgar looked really ordinary. It's early days, but apart from one decent arm ball to dismiss Brooks, he looked average and was hit for quite a few boundaries, particularly by the left handlers.

Well Singh went on to get 135 not out as the boys posted a score of 419. Reifer got 45 to continue his fine form too. Singh had been knocking on the door for the past two years and was stunning for the A-team in Sri-lanka. But the door looked set to remain closed after a pretty average first class season for Guyana this year. But this innings is huge for the lad and underlines the talent he has. He's pretty much in the "Shiv" mould. He's very calm and calculated at the crease and will hopefully bring some stability to the test sides middle order. Especially now that Samuels is out and Bravo is missing. Powell also made a case for himself to partner Kraigg by hitting a decent 58 knock. He hasn't been great since he returned but he does have three tons at Test level and he's got 49, 61 and now 58 in his last six innings so hopefully his confidence is returning just in time for this series.

Hetmyer has been playing for Guyana since he was sixteen so a lot has been expected of the young man. He too impressed for the A-team in Sri-lanka with a 90 odd in tough conditions when everyone was falling around him. I think he needs to settle at playing at number three as that's where his best scores have come from. No need to keep switching from opening to number three, stay at number three and keep playing the way you are lad. For me he has everything in his locker to be better than Darren Bravo!!...he's just fearless out there and has all the strokes in the book. I think winning the u19 world cup really lifted his confidence tenfold. And it must have been even more of a pleasure seeing as he was the captain of the side.

So anyway Pakistan are currently 129/4. Shazad is 53 not out but Khan and ul-Haq fell cheaply. Reifer has two wickets, Keon Joseph one and Jacobs one. All in all the guys have been very good indeed. Cornwall has also caused a lot of problems for the Pakistan bastmen with his offspin getting deep bounce. It's gonna be very interesting to see what the Test squad looks like come Friday. It's not been named yet so it looks like the selectors have an eye on one or two names from this game.

Well our test squad has been selected as seen HERE

Brathwaite, Powell, Hetmyer, Hope, Singh, Blackwood, Chase, Dowrich (wk), Holder (c), Bishoo, Gabriel, Joseph, Cummins

A lot of our fans are happy with this squad tbh. It's a young group no doubt but it's packed with a lot of potential. The warm-up game was a draw after we bowled out Pakistan for 192. Powell then went on to make 80 odd and we were over 300 ahead by the time the draw was called. Must say Pakistan looked very under par in this game but no doubt they'll come out firing on Friday.

Gonna need Singh to provide that glue in the middle order of which others can build around. And if Hetty starts then there could be some fireworks in these games that's for sure. Want to see Joseph and Hope shine in this series too. Hopefully we start well and build from there...the first innings could be crucial for how we move forward. Get rolled over and it could be tough times ahead.
