Well the team chemistry was 7 batsmen, 5 bowlers, we left out kallis our fifth bowler and top orfer batsman, replacing him with a batsman takes our fifth bowler away, which is always handy. Cause if a bowler gets injured and peterson goes for 5+ an over we'd have 2 bowlers to bowl pak out. Not to mention abott and kleinveldt strengthened our tail to almost make up for missing kallis.
On the other hand, if we had duminy in for elgar, I recon neil mckenzie could have been close to a recall. Then we'd have duminy, peterson, steyn philander and kleinveldt to bowl.
ETA: no one can replace kallis, but its our best option available.

Yeah ideally you'd have picked another batting allrounder. You don't really seem to have one in the frame, but a fifth bowler is a luxury rather than a requirement, and the #7 batting position is far more important in general, especially against Pakistan.

Fifth bowler is handy, if in the last test Pak attacked peterson, we would have been in serious trouble, kallis had a niggle and morkel was out. We basically had three bowlers left.

Stats relating to when batsmen score hundreds typically don't include the times they fail to score hundreds, no.

Pak will be done and gone under 200 imo....Azhar and YK should be ready to face the new ball with Fart opening and Hafiz out of touch..
