*Official* Pakistan in New Zealand 2020/21

The Guardian have a nice round-up of the year from Gary Naylor that highlights the first NZ vs West Indies test. I have linked to it here, because it is relevant to the discussion about commentators. In particular, Naylor discusses just how much he enjoyed listening to Jeetan Patel and Grant Elliot. Which is worth highlighting, ‘cos despite my bitching about Scotty Stevenson, Spark really have got a lot right with the rest of their team.

So, no changes to the XI from the last game. Mitchell might have reason to be peeved there while not for the first time Astle must be wondering why he was called up in the first place.

Do Pak have anyone that can bat? Shadab apparently batting 3 here. He started the year batting at 8 in 20/20s.

Not Terrible
Stevenson

- admires a big chip in the air
- thinks it was Guptill when it clearly wasn't

I don't mind him as much as some on here but you can tell he isn't as well versed with the game as the majority of commentators.

I think this came from the PSL more than anything. Him batting 5 actually surprised me more than him batting 3 though. #3 can be a pitch hitter type spot but if you're scheduled to bat 5 before a ball is bowled you're a ****ing batsman.

The fact that he genuinely looked better than most of them was probably both encouraging and concerning at the same time.

Guptill going through something of a lean trot now, he hardly ever goes missing in home t20s.For a player of his quality he's been surprisingly unwanted by overseas T20 leagues and I think the relative lack of regular exposure tends to have its effect on him.

One 50 from 13 innings in all levels and formats so far this season ...don’t remember exactly how much he contributed last season, but this seems like a really long dry spell. Wonder if his eye has left him ... the way he goes hard at the ball he really needs to time it perfectly.
