I don't know about Southee's long term value to the T20 side, but I don't quite get this attitude. Maybe if Southee got his wickets from slogs to fielders, but that wasn't the case. His bowling was absolutely superb tonight and that can only be a good thing for NZ.
Ye he was great tonight. But when you get a 100 chances you're bound to get a few right. Will remain extremely doubtful for now still

Weirdly it almost seemed to me more like a great ODI spell ... but obviously did a job in the game tonight as well. Maybe because he bowled the first three on the trot? Given his test resurgence it sorta makes me wanna see what he can do back in the ODI side (and I've been one of his biggest haters there).

Southee shows these flashes of brilliance and real intelligence, was a similar case against Kohli and co in the onedayers earlier in the year. Still, needs conditions to be in his favour and doesn’t have the versatility to survive bat-a-thons which are more common in T20 I feel. But that was a matchwinning spell there today, no question.

The death bowling will get shown up at least a couple of times during the Australia series you feel (assuming they send something resembling a full strength team). Definitely not worth rushing in Ferguson if he happens to recover by then. Boult is usually pretty good though and Jaimeson capable of learning fast, so those two are NZ’s best bet gor now.

Scotty Stevenson bemoaning third man being up to the spinner ?
How is Scotty Stevenson allowed to commentate rugby games let alone cricket is beyond me. The guy is bloody terrible.

The worst qualities of the dumb jock ex-sports stars without actually even having that experience. And then his mannerisms and the way he talks just make me want to punch him in the face.

This captures my own views exactly. He should not be anywhere near the Comm box.

They could mix things up a bit by promoting the classic old school non-specialist front man Peter Williams from the radio comms. He would bring some gravitas. I would also like to see an old curmudgeon like Glenn Turner added to have a technical guru with no ties to the current players.

Nah, never enjoyed Turner's commentary, he has too many axes to grind with NZ cricket, he'd just whinge all the time. Besides, not sure if him and Flem would want to work together. If there's anyone I'd want promoted to the TV coverage, it'd be Jeremy Coney.

i really don't mind scotty stevenson. im enjoying the spark box a lot. we're getting far more insight out of the ex players than we ever did out of sky, doull on bowling excepted. they've even calmed mark richardson down.

Flicked through both matches delayed, was impressed with Seifert, particularly yesterday's innings. Some great cover drives and pull shots. Relevant to recent discussion on here, he didn't lose his shape and try to overhit those shots either - proper cricket shots. Did still see some examples of losing shape, particularly when the ball is just outside off stump, slightly short, he wants to hit hard to perhaps mid-on but it's not there for it.

Could be a breakthrough mini series for him.

seifert
guptill (plz score runs soon)
kane
conway
phillips
neesham
santner
sodhi (plz get better)
to be decided paceman between southee, jamieson and duffy
ferguson
boult

our best t20 line up for indian conditions imo. i think mark chapman is someone we should show more interest in, because he seems to be improving overall as a batsman and can bowl some very effective left arm trash. i could see him stealing neesham or sodhi's spot in the final eleven.

kuggs and tickner won't be there, they're not fast or accurate enough for what they're trying to do and jamieson is a level above them in their roles even if the statistics don't reflect it yet.

if adam milne is at full pace and bowling well i would welcome him back with open arms for the final paceman spot.

hopefully we learn more about our players in the super smash. the above is a semi finals side but has too many holes to be confident.

Tempted to ditch Guptill, move Kane up to open and insert Chapman somewhere into that batting lineup.

Coney would be great ... the one downside (apart from Stevenson) with the current lineup is they’re pretty much all from the same era.

Coney and Williams would be great additions to the Spark line-up. I am really enjoying listening to Williams on Rova. But I guess Spark are not so interested in attracting more middle-aged, middle-class white guy viewers (since we are all already cricket fans). I actually think that is great, and love Sophie, Franky and the other new additions. But I just don’t understand what market Spark are trying to appeal to with Scotty Stevenson. The white, male boofhead market?
