Argh, what a terrible squad. Both Raval and Aste are no hopers, de Grandhomme, where in the hell did that come from? Wasn't he close to quitting cricket this time last year? Anyway he's even worse than a no hoper.

1. Latham
2. Raval
3. Williamson
4. Taylor
5. Nicholls
6. Neesham
7. Watling
8. Astle
9. Henry
10. Southee
11. Boult

Jesus, Williamson is going to need to score a **** load of runs.

It's a decent question - would Mark have been picked ahead of Todd. Really not sure, I bloody hope so. Todd might be the better performing FC spinner and also batsman, but Pidg has shown himself very capable with the bat at Test level, more than I'd expect from Todd (I know that's not fair given he made a decent score on debut and has no other chances, but it's a hunch) and furthermore he's infinitely more likely to win a Test match in the 4th innings. Todd only passes muster as a holding bowler, which given our **** Test record this year I'd rather someone who might get pinged for a couple but can take a big bag.

The Jeet thing is ridiculous. It's this 21st century mentality where selectors and management justify their existence by 'thinking outside the box'. They took Jeet to SA but kept backing the existing limping horse, said India wasn't necessarily a place for traditional openers - yet continued to open with two Test specialised openers whilst one was in all sorts of bad form and continued to exhibit it. Jeet comes back, doesn't turn any of his 6 starts into a ton, and some of the shots he got out to were absolutely awful (read the mow to be bowled off Jeet, steering Viljoen straight to gully and poking to Bennett outside off stump which honestly could've been a dead ball if he'd got runs, it was that far away from being classified as a shot) but yet in he goes for a guy who outscored him in the last game. It's okay to replace people and I advocated Jeet in SA and India, but not when he's had chances to justify it since and hasn't taken it. Of course, I'm sure he learnt lots from 'being in the environment' in Africa and making 30 in a tour match v Zimbabwe A.
There is no way in the world Craig is a better batsman than Astle, come on.

So you would be happy with dropping Matt Henry, after how well he bowled in India, for Neil Wagner, who himself was dropped for being such a one trick pony?

Yes, I'm very happy to drop a guy who tonned up in his last test and who's never succeeded in a 3rd seamer role for our best bowler over the last 12 months. If Henry plays it's ahead of Southee not Wagner.

Oh they're going Neesh/CdG at 6, no doubt. Our battings weak, but I like me a 4 prong pace attack + Tastle
I've always liked NZ to have a four-pronged pace attack too, but that was mainly in the past where each individual pace bowler was inexperienced and inconsistent. Nowadays we should be able to rely on our top 3 fast bowlers to do the job at home, even if they didn't against Australia last summer.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing

Don't read selectively my man. I said Mark would offer more at Test level. I wouldn't at all expect Todd to average nigh on 37 with 3 Test 50s, and scored with the aggressiveness Mark has that has progressed Tests.

Matt Henry bowled pretty well in India - as the opening bowler. That spot isn't up for grabs next week unless you want to drop Southee. Henry has shown nothing as a Test first change apart from at Lord's, and even that was reasonably average bowling that resulted in a few wickets. No one is thinking of, or will, be dropping Wagner. In fact I'll happily bet on him being our top wicket taker for the series.

Not Terrible
Nicholls surely gets dropped after this series right? With only 2 50s and an average of 24 he isn't exactly lighting the world on fire and we have more middle order options that could bandage up the spot than we do openers.

Your name should be changed to Howdoyouevenexistsie with such silly opinions.

Wagner should never have been dropped even in India, it's just ridiculous selection policy.

"He's a one trick pony" - like Boult and Southee aren't also? Wagner's trick lasts throughout the entire lifespan of the ball, Boult and Southee's trick lasts 10 overs at the start and sometimes 10 overs in the middle, that's it.

By the 'Todd Astle has bashed down the door with numbers' policy, surely Colin Manu is up for selection at 5? Or is the ridiculous notion that what he did 3 years ago in a Test he should never have been picked for still relevant in some people's eyes? No #5 has a FC record that nears Manu's. How many NZ-based cricketers score two 250+ scores and continue to be ignored?

And no, Wagner should not have been dropped. We made that mistake in the past, had seemingly learned from it but then found out we hadn't. I was happy to admit I got wrong on Wagner at international level, seemingly others can't go that way.

Boult looked threatening at a lot of stages in India, incidentally, so it's not fair to put him in that boat. He looked back to the guy who set the world on fire 24 months ago, just that he had to operate in conditions that didn't show it as well as it might've in a series down here. I expect him to really trouble Pakistan. Southee, we'll see - but he did bowl in the Indian ODIs like someone who's spot was all of a sudden up for consideration (ala 2012).

Lol, so what's your latest reason for dropping Wagner this time? Is it for not getting a 5-fer in his last in India?
