The Aussie side CW would agree on is slightly better than CWs general NZ side.

Both countries have the tendency to do something monumentally ******** with the team balance or a specific selection or plan though, and that would swing it heavily in the other teams favour.

You do when it's relatively even from 1-7.
Our roles are better defined. Elliott/Anderson/Ronchi are the best 5-6-7 act in the world right now. The 1-4 split between Australia and NZ would be a hard one to make, Warner and Smith are obviously very good, so is Williamson. Taylor, Baz and Clarke aren't probably too far away from one another.

Watson is probably worse than Guptill atm.

Bailey has had a fairly large opportunity to bash India around on flat tracks though.

He isn't a hack but he isn't a gun either.
A chap can't have a rough/flat patch? Funny how we tolerate it when it's a certain Suburbs New Lynn opener :p who I'm guessing had a much worse 2014 than Bailey did.

If Bailey was from Auckland I'd call him a myth.

Pretty sure Guppy & Watson were equally dire in 2014, but Watson can bowl 5-6 decent overs and Guppy is one probably one of the top 3 fielders in the world.

Apologies to any Pakistani fans coming in thinking there's been a few additional comments about the Pak/NZ series in the thread ...

I can't even remember the last time Watto passed 50 in an ODIer. He also hasn't contributed with the ball in years. I wouldn't be surprised if Elliott bowls more overs this world cup.

Bailey's form is pretty terrible which is what hendrix was getting at I think. At the moment, he is pretty much a hack.

He better not. I chose Watto in my World Cup draft...

Also after that last ODI Williamson is still 6th in the world, 1 point behind Dilshan and Taylor 8th and 3 of the top 10 bowlers are not bowling in the WC because of chucking.

Btw Watto's last 5 ODI scores haven't been that terrible at all....

40 off 38 vs SA
19 off 25 vs SA
82 off 93 vs SA
16 off 20 vs Eng
41 off 39 vs India

But he has struggled to take wickets.

It's ODI cricket. If two teams both bat to 10 but one side has a decently better 8-10 but inferior 6-7... you should still take the one with the better 6-7.

Reckon a few Kiwis are having a collective nightmare of a superior Australian team. Nah, we're on par. It's the Yarps we should be worried about. They actually have a few blokes who are head and shoulders better than we are.
Yeah - our 6-7 is strong, but so is Australia's. I'd say we're close to on par. Both sides been playing some pretty far out of form oppositions, so hard to tell.

Exactly. Underestimate Australia at your peril..... Their batting line-up looks damn strong to me.

The other thing to like about those batting performances from Watson is even if he does get out for 15-20 runs, it's not off 45 deliveries, so he never wastes away deliveries like some other batsmen we know...

Of course the other differentiator is the batting back-up options assuming an injury to the top 7.... NZ have Latham to fall back on, whereas Australia have Marsh & Finch (assuming they start with that line-up I posted above).

Absolutely.

Here's a scenario for you - the marketer's dream happens with a trans-Tasman final. I know it's fanciful at this stage, but what else is there to do without meaningful cricket going on? At the G (with me in the crowd) you'd back Australia in. They would've played their whole tournament on bigger grounds, save for Eden Park, and we would've played exclusively at home. I imagine Hesson and co have this in their plans - they were here pre-Xmas - but it's a much different game. If we get behind the run rate and certain guys aren't ticking strike over, a get out of jail card isn't 60m in front or beside you.

I absolutely think we'll be very, very hard to beat at home with our dimensions on our pitches.

Indeed. Playing catch-up when you find yourself on 17 off 39 deliveries is not so easy there, hence why the Australian batsmen seem so much more cognisant in getting the scoreboard ticking over from the get-go.

Look I actually was the first to say Bailey is a hack and so is Finch and half the Aussie side but Shane Watson is one of the best ODI batsmen/allrounders ever. In no universe is he worse than Guptill.

RE: Bailey's record; I think it's boosted by some India bashing.
